Changing the rear Door Hinge e54 starts by extracting the door from the car before removing the taillamp and taillamp filler panel. The correct installation process should be followed to replace a rear Door Hinge. Begin by taking off the trim panel and make markings of the hinge halves using a pen on both the vehicle door and its body. The service hinge template provides the correct drilling points to punch existing welds before drilling complete 3.0mm (1/8in) pilot holes through all components at those punches. The drilling should start from the pilot holes to produce 13.0mm (1/2in) openings within matching components. A chisel must be used to separate the hinge from the door frame before using a grinder for removing residual welds from the body side frame and door. The new hinge installation procedure requires you to cut off extra bolt ends which should match the length of the door plate while also installing the hinge pin bushings. After applying medium-bodied sealer to the hinge halves mating surface install anchor plates together with bolts and apply them with a torque of 27 nm (20 lb.ft.). Paint the hinge after setting it at the pre-marked position then reinstall the trim panel followed by the taillamp filler panel and the taillamp. When reattaching the door to the vehicle position it correctly within its framework by first ensuring the left door remains shut before proceeding with the adjustment of the right door. Visual confirmation should verify that the lock assembly is securely connected to the striker after completion.

Remove the excess ends of the bolts to be even with the door plate, install the hinge pin bushings, and apply a medium-bodied sealer to the mating surface of the hinge halves.

Reinstall the door to the vehicle and adjust it to fit properly in the door opening frame, ensuring the left door is closed when adjusting the right door and performing a visual check to confirm that the lock assembly is properly engaged to the striker before closing the right door completely.

Remove the trim panel.
