    Q:
How to service and repair the hydraulic hose on Chevrolet Prizm? Posted by Customer
    A:
You should start by elevating the vehicle before you begin Hydraulic Hose services and repairs. Start by removing both the 6 bolts on the left splash shield and the shield itself. A drain pan should be placed below the transaxle cooler before removing the one clamp from each hose attached to the transaxle fluid cooler and then doing the same to the outlet hose. Proceed by taking off 1 clamp with fluid cooler inlet hose from the fluid cooler inlet pipe then remove 1 clamp with fluid cooler outlet hose from the fluid cooler outlet pipe. Detach the inlet and outlet fluid cooler pipe flare nuts before removing one bolt and the fluid cooler pipe bracket that supports both inlet and outlet pipes from the transaxle unit. Immediately proceed with removing the next bolt and fluid cooler pipe bracket which supports the outlet pipe. Inspect the transaxle fluid cooler hoses for leakage and fatigues then replace damaged items while inspecting the fluid cooler pipes for kinking and damage needing replacement. Use j 35534 piston cover depressor to mount fluid cooler outlet pipe and bracket to transaxle by tightening one 5 nm (44 inch lbs.) bolt before proceeding with fluid cooler inlet pipe bracket installation secured with 1 bolt. Use j 35534 piston cover depressor to secure fluid cooler inlet and outlet pipe brackets with 5 nm (44 inch lbs.) torque while tightening flare nuts to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). Attach the fluid cooler outlet hose to its corresponding pipe before clamping it down. Repeat this process for the fluid cooler inlet hose installation. After securing both hoses to the transaxle fluid cooler with one clamp each, remove the drain pan and reinstall the left splash shield by tightening its six bolts to 5 nm (44 inch lbs.). Finally, lower the vehicle. The vehicle must stand at level height with proper wheel blocking while using parking brake activation. First put the manual selector into the p (Park) position before starting the engine without racing it. Put the engine at idle to observe all gear ranges and return the manual selector to p (Park). While the engine runs remove the fluid level indicator from the filler tube then wipe it clean and reinstall it to test its fit. Check the fluid level by removing the indicator a second time after emptying it. The fluid should rest between the full hot and low hot marks on the filler tube. To reach the full hot mark when the fluid level falls below it, add 0.3 liters (0.3 quarts) of dexron iii automatic transmission fluid gm p/n 12346143 or equivalent.
