When using earless type clamp on vehicles, utilize ch 48894 - wheel drive shaft boot clamp pliers to close the boot clamp while ensuring both its correct seating position on the boot. Use the circular motion to apply lubricant inside the outer cv joint at least four to five times. Then remove the wheel drive shaft from the bench vise while installing the assembly.

Use j 35910 - drive axle seal clamp pliers to secure the boot clamp until the gap reaches 1.9 mm (0.07 in). When working on vehicles with earless type clamps use ch 48894 - wheel drive shaft boot clamp pliers to safely close the boot clamp properly. Move the wheel drive shaft circularly at least four to five times to distribute the lubricant within the outer cv joint then remove the assembly from the bench vise to proceed.

Mount the cv joint on the wheel drive shaft using a block of wood and a hammer, install the boot clamp onto the boot and the wheel drive shaft followed by boot clamp to the boot and cv joint housing. Analyze the location of the boot clamp around the entire circumference of the boot and the measurement of the gap which should not exceed 1.8 mm (0.07 in) for vehicles with x88 and 2.6 mm (0.10 in) for vehicles with z88/w49/wda. Tighten the boot clamp using the j 35910 - pliers by ensuring the gap between the boot clamp is 1.8 mm (0.07 in) for vehicles with x88 and 2.6 mm (0.10 in) for vehicles with z88/w49/wda. For cars with the earless kind of clamp ensure to close the boot clamp using ch 48894 -pliers while the ear type clamp be closed as us ed j 35910 -pliers, torque or ratchet wrench as well as breaker bar to close the boot clamp in a 1.9 mm (0,07 in)spaces for cars with x88. Inject the lubricant into the cv joint outer cavity by rotating the body of the cv joint at 90 degrees of angles at least four or five times then extract the wheel drive shaft and mount the wheel drive shaft assembly.

Align the wheel drive shaft outboard seal, tripot housing, and large seal retaining clamp, then latch the large seal retaining clamp using the Drive Axle Seal Clamp Pliers (J 35566), ensuring full engagement of the latching tangs.

Position the boot on the wheel drive shaft, ensuring it is properly seated in the grooved wheel drive shaft.

Cutting through the boots may damage the sealing surface and lead to premature wear of the constant velocity joint.

Mark the tripot spider position on the wheel drive shaft bar before disassembly.

Compress the barrel retaining ring with a flat-bladed tool and verify positive engagement by attempting to pull the tripot spider free from the wheel drive shaft bar.

Install the boot on the wheel drive shaft, ensuring it is properly seated in the groove. If applicable, install the inner tripot retaining ring using the appropriate tool.

Use the J 35910 - pliers, breaker bar, and a torque or ratchet wrench to close the clamp until the gap measures 1.9 mm (0.07 in) for vehicles with X88.
