Gear Shift Assembly

Start with service and repair of the automatic transmission select lever by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable then placing the manual selector in neutral position. The console removal requires removing screws 1,6,3,4 and clips 2,5 and disconnecting the shift lock solenoid connector from under the carpet and the shift indicator lamp. Raise the vehicle while supporting it properly after you remove the 4 bolts which hold the manual selector to the floor. Remove the retaining clip as well as the washer and shift select cable from the manual shift lever and the select cable locknut. A thorough inspection of the shift select cable must be done for both fraying and kinks before replacing it. Begin the procedure by uncrossing the 2 knob screws and knob and the select indicator assembly and select lever assembly. Reinstating begins with installing the select lever assembly and select indicator assembly before fastening the knob and its screws. Place the manual shift lever into the low position before installing the shift select cable into its bracket on the transmission and fastening it except by tightening the locknut. The shift select cable locknut requires a torque setting of 7 nm (62 inch lbs.) for installation. Afterward lower the car and confirm the ability to reach both manual selector and manual shift lever. After securing the shift select cable washer with the retaining clip attach it to the selector lever and verify both shift select cable ends for proper deflection. Install the manual selector to the floor so that all 4 bolts achieve 18 nm torque (13 foot pounds). Enable the carpet to reveal the shift indicator lamp and the shift lock solenoid electrical connector before using the 4 screws (1,3,4,6) and 2 plastic retaining clips to join the console box to the floor. Commission the manual selector to park position before reestablishing the negative Battery Cable connection.

Lower the vehicle to access both the manual selector and the manual shift lever, and connect the shift select cable to the selector lever, securing the washer with the retaining clip.
