    Q:
How to Service and Repair Automatic Transmission Shift Levers on Chevrolet Impala? Posted by Customer
    A:
The replacement process of the shift lever starts by removing the steering column trim covers. Connectors for shift lever electrical signaling must be detached from the base of the steering column. First cut off the shift lever screw attached to the shift lever before pulling the shift lever away from its connection to the linear shift assembly. Shift lever seal can be transferred during the process. Installation of the shift lever requires allowing the linear shift assembly to grab it then executing slow fastener procedures. The installation of shift lever screw should occur on shift lever while tightening to 20 nm (15 lb ft). You should refit the electrical connector for the shift lever located at the steering column base and install both steering column trim panels.

    Q:
How to Replace Automatic Transmission Shift Levers on Chevrolet Impala? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before shifting the lever you should disable the sir system. Position the shift lever seal at the upper part of the shift lever tube. Steer column trim cover removal is required when such step is found necessary. The first step includes disconnecting the shift lever connector located at the column base then unscrewing the shift lever screw installed on the shift lever assembly. Extract the shift lever and seal from the linear shift assembly while moving the shift lever seal along the narrow part of the shift lever towards the inside. The shift lever assembly must be attached to linear shift assembly before installing the shift lever seal onto the shift lever assembly. Secure the shift lever screw inside the shift lever assembly with a torque setting to 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Slide the shift lever seal down the shift lever assembly and guide it toward the area where it leads into the steering column trim covers. After putting back the steering column trim covers enable the sir system only if it becomes necessary.
