Brake Pads

To remove the brake pads, first siphon 2/3 of the fluid from the master cylinder reservoir and lift the vehicle and support it, then remove the tire and wheel assembly. Press the Piston down until it reaches bottom in its bore then remove the 2 caliper pin bolts (1,2) being careful not to allow the brake components hang off the flexible brake hoses. Remove the caliper assembly and hang it with a wire to prevent the brake hose from being torn. Then remove the pad wear indicator, the 2 inner pad insulators (8,9), the 2 outer pad insulators (4,5), the inner Brake Pad, the outer Brake Pad, and the 2 Brake Pad retainers (2,6). For installation, connect the 2 Brake Pad retainers(2,6) to the caliper, and then install the front brake wear indicator to inner pad. Apply lubriplate (R) lubricant, gm p/n 12346293, or an equivalent lubricant meeting nlgi #2 category lb or gc-lb requirements to both sides of a new inner pad insulator before installing it to the inner pad , followed by the inner pad insulator to the inner pad insulator . Perform the repetition of the lubrication process for the new outer pad insulator before fitting it to the outer pad and then outer pad insulator to the outer pad insulator . Install the inner Brake Pad with the wear indicator facing upward followed with an installation of the outer Brake Pad . Mount the caliper housing to the caliper bracket, apply lubrication to the caliper pin bolts, and install the 2 caliper pin bolts and tighten them fully to 34nm (25ft. Lbs.). Replace the tire and wheel assembly, bring down the vehicle, and fill up the master cylinder fluid reservoir, and lastly burnish the pads and the rotors.

Inspect for wear and replace them in axle sets if the thickness is less than 1 mm.

Install the inner brake pad with the wear indicator facing upward, followed by the outer brake pad to the caliper housing.
