2000 Chevrolet Prizm Brake Pad Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake pads on 2000 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: Drain two-thirds of the master cylinder reservoir fluid while pushing the Piston down until it rests at the bottom of its bore. Lift the vehicle to work safely under it then take out the wheel set and tire combined. Using a wire support system keep the caliper assembly (3) from damaging the brake hose socket as you loosen and remove its two pin bolts (1,2) then take it off the caliper carrier. Remove the brake caliper pad wear sensor along with two inner and two outer insulators followed by both brake pads plus their retainers. Check if brake pads have 1 mm (0.039 inch) minimum thickness and Brake Pad retainers show enough return action without damage or defects such as cracks, wear, rust and dirt. Then they can be reinstalled. Install the two Brake Pad retainers (2,6) onto their positions on the caliper before placing the front brake wear indicator onto the inner pad . Mineral oil gm p/n 12346293 from lubriplate needs application to both sides of the new inner pad insulator before installation as directed. Follow our steps to apply lubricant on two new outer pad insulators before installing them to the outer pad pieces. Fit the inner Brake Pad first with its wear indicator pointing upward and position the outer Brake Pad against the caliper housing. The caliper assembly connections go through the caliper bracket with two bolts until they reach 34 nm (25 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the tire and wheel assembly on the lowered vehicle while filling the master cylinder reservoir with new outer pad insulator lubrication.
