  • Q: How to replace the Brake Calipers on 2000 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: Before installing a new brake caliper you must properly raise and support the vehicle while removing its tire and wheel. Before removing the brake hose disconnect you need to unscrew the brake hose union bolt and put a container under the hose to collect fluid when you disconnect it. Use tools to loosen both caliper pin bolts and pull off the housing from its caliper bracket position. Exam your brake parts especially bolts pins and boots for damage. Replace when you detect wear or rust. Take the brake pads off consecutive to their retaining parts from the caliper housing. Place the brake hardware inside the caliper housing again while keeping the fastener notice in mind during installation. Install the caliper housing to caliper bracket and bolt it with two caliper pins turning the torque to 34 nm (25 ft. Lbs). Use lubriplate lubricant (GM P/N 12346293 or equivalent) that matches nlgi requirements for #2 category lb or gc-lb. Reinstall the tire and wheel assembly by fitting the brake hose union bolt before tightening it to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Place the vehicle below floor level and refill the master cylinder fluid then release air from the brake system.
