2001 Chevrolet Prizm Brake Calipers Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Brake Calipers on 2001 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: The first task to replace a brake caliper includes lifting the vehicle and removing the tire and wheel piece. Take off the brake hose union bolt first while positioning a fluid receptacle under the hose. Disconnect the brake hose afterward. Unbolt the 2 caliper pins then slide off the caliper from its bracket. Look for worn or corroded dust boots on the caliper pins and mounting bolts during this inspection. Replace any worn parts as needed. You should take out all brake pads along with their insulators, retainers, and wear indicator from the caliper unit. Reassemble the brake parts by returning the wear indicator and other hardware into the caliper housing before attaching it to the caliper bracket. Before assembling the caliper pin bolts use lubriplate (R) lubricant gm p/n 12346293 or another nlgi #2 category lb or gc-lb compliant equivalent lubricant on the pin bolts. Put on the brake hose union bolt first and tight it to 30 nm (22 foot pounds) torque setting. Put back the wheel tire unit then put the car down while adding fluid to the master cylinder and removing air from the brake system.
