2001 Chevrolet Prizm Brake Drum Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake drum on 2001 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: Start by releasing the parking brake then lifting the vehicle and putting it on supports. Take off the Brake Drum after you remove the wheel and tire from the rear. You can service the park brake lever strut only after removing the rear brake adjuster access hole plug and holding the Brake Shoe adjuster actuator out of the way with a screwdriver. Turn the park brake lever strut with another screwdriver while loosening the Brake Shoe adjustment. If you cannot free the drum because of rust or corrosion between its holes and the hub and backing plate, drive 2 bolts into the holes and simultaneously turn them clockwise to loosen up the drum. Look at the drum parts before installing them and fix the drum or get new ones. Also replace all brake components as needed. To reassemble the area you should return the drum to its position then add the tire and wheel parts before lowering the vehicle to the ground.
