2002 Chevrolet Prizm Brake Calipers Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace brake calipers on 2002 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: Vehicle suspension followed by wheel and tire detachment marks the first step before you can begin caliper replacement. First disconnect the brake hose union bolt and position a container beneath the brake hose to capture any escaping brake fluid before proceeding. First remove the two caliper pin bolts from the caliper bracket and take off the caliper. Examine the mounting bolts and caliper pins and dust boots for degradation and corrosion and replace failing components. Put the brake pads together with insulators, retainers and wear indicator inside the caliper housing for removal. Start by fitting brake pads and insulators into the caliper housing followed by mounting the caliper onto the caliper bracket. Apply lubriplate lubricant, gm p/n 12346293, or an equivalent lubricant meeting the requirements of nlgi #2 category lb or gc-1-13 to the caliper pin bolts. Fasten the 2 caliper pin bolts with 34 nm (25 ft. Lbs.) torque. You must now install and tighten the brake hose union bolt with a torque setting of 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). After reinstalling the tire and lowering the vehicle owners must complete the procedure by topping off the master cylinder fluid reservoir and performing brake bleeding operations.
