2000 Chevrolet Prizm Brake Line Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the rear, center, and front brake lines on 2000 Chevrolet Prizm?
A: Before replacing the rear brake pipe start by siphoning brake fluid from the reservoir and then lift and support the vehicle. Wash away any dirt or foreign materials from the pipes and fittings before removing the rear brake pipe from both the rear Wheel Cylinder and rear brake hose. Shut down the brake system and begin by attaching the rear brake pipe to the rear brake hose and rear Wheel Cylinder followed by brake system bleeding before lowering the vehicle. Siphon brake fluid initially while performing the following sequence: lift and support the vehicle before cleaning the brake pipe components then extract the center brake pipe from the rear brake hose, brake hose retainers, brake pipe retainers, proportioning valve sequence. Place and secure the center brake pipe at the proportioning valve along with brake pipe retainers and rear brake hose before bleeding the brake system from a raised vehicle position. First remove the front brake pipe from the master cylinder and abs modulator valve after you have cleaned the tubes and fixtures through brake fluid siphoning. Attach the front brake pipe distribution to both the abs modulator valve and master cylinder prior to performing a brake fluid bleed. Bleed the brake system after putting the front brake pipe into place between the proportioning valve and front brake pipe retainers and abs modulator valve. When replacing the front brake pipe between the proportioning valve and the front brake pipe fitting ensure to follow the same siphoning technique and cleaning procedures before removing the front brake pipe along with retainers and fitting for backward reinstallation followed by a brake system bleeding procedure. By following these steps the installer should breathe brake fluid from the front brake pipe at its fitting to the front wheel. Then clean all affected pipes and fittings before separating the front brake pipe from the fitting. Next they should raise and stabilize the vehicle to access the front wheel assembly. The installer will remove the brake pipe from the matching hose connection and the hose retainer. The installation process begins by fitting the front brake hose to retainer then lowering the vehicle for front brake pipe fitting access followed by pipe integration to the fitting before a brake system bleeding sequence and finally reinstalling the front tire and wheel before vehicle lowering.
