Chevrolet Prizm Brake Line Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the brake line using the J29803-A ISO Flaring Kit on Chevrolet Prizm?
A: Use the J29803-A tool to install new double-walled steel brake pipe that will stop brake system failures. You need both steel and tube materials before starting. Cut 3 mm (1/8") more length than your string measurement of the old pipe. Apply fittings to the tubing first then proceed with flaring. Prepare the pipe ends using a de-burring device before removing all lubricants from the brake pipe and flaring tool. Fix the tool body in a vise and place a suitable size collet and forming mandrel for the specific pipe measurements. Then, insert the proper forming mandrel into the tool body. Keep the mandrel in place while threading the forcing screw before letting it touch the mandrel then turning it one full revolution. Position the clamping nut over the brake pipe until the correct collet fits in place. Keep 19 mm (3/4 inches) of the tube visible at the end. Safe the tool body while fitting the brake pipe end close to the forming mandrel face then clamp the threaded nut tightly. Twist the forcing screw until it meets the mandrel stop and resist turning any further. Pull out the clamping nut from the tool body and detach the clamping nut and collet components to make the flare usable. Complete the installation by bending the pipe according to the original shape with a 19 mm (3/4 inch) safe space from all moving parts during the process.
