Removing the snap ring inside the gas charged shock absorber tube's top should be avoided because this could result in severe personal injuries from fast-moving gas components. Wear safety glasses during both centerpunching and drilling of the shock absorber to protect yourself while keeping the shock absorber tube free of punctures. Start by using a centerpunch to create a depth of 10 mm (0.4 in) above the bottom of the tube. Fit the shock absorber into the vise with the rod fully extended and maintain it in a horizontal position. Use a 5 mm (3/16 in) drill bit to make a hole at the centerpunch location in the shock absorber then let gas or gas/oil mixture escape while using shop towels to collect the expelled oil. To drill the second hole into the tube you must first create a marked indentation with a centerpunch at its midsection before using the 5 mm (3/16 in) drill bit again. The shock absorber should be placed in a drain pan while the holes face downwards before you push and pull the rod against the tube until the absorber becomes completely oil-free.

Make an indentation 10 mm (0.4 inch) from the bottom of the tube using a centerpunch, ensuring to wear safety glasses.

Reconnect the automatic level control air tube to the shock.

It may result in personal injury due to the contents being expelled with extreme force.

The upper shock absorber cover and trunk trim.

Take off the upper shock absorber cover and the upper shock absorber retaining nuts.

Install the lower shock bolts, tightening them to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

Tighten the wheel nuts to 125 N.m (80 lb ft).

Create a second indentation in the middle of the tube with a centerpunch and drill another hole at this mark using a 5 mm (3/16 inch) drill bit.

Remove the shock from the vehicle.

Remove the wheel and tire.

Install the shock cover and position the trunk trim correctly.
