The National Highway Traffic System requires complete replacement of any seat belt system when automatic restraint devices launch in a serious collision. The replacement requirement covers adult seat belts together with the components needed for child restraint systems and booster seats which utilize LATCH system and top tether anchorages. Any seat belt system needs replacement when it shows torn or damaged components because this requirement includes both adult seat belts and standard child restraints as well as LATCH system components. The process requires seat belt system replacement only when observers find the words "REPLACE" or "CAUTION" or see a yellow tag, unless the caution label pertains to children's seats alone. A seat belt system replacement should always be carried out when there is any question about its condition affecting adult seat belts and built-in child restraints, LATCH system components and the restraint system used to secure infant carriers and child restraints and booster seats. The entire buckle guide and retractor assembly should be replaced when any of these vehicles were involved in multiple collisions according to the description mentioned above. The seat belt system in minor collisions does not require immediate replacement unless there are torn or worn or damaged elements.
