    Q:
How to Replace Coil Springs on Chevrolet Malibu? Posted by Customer
    A:
A vehicle support system should be used to lift the vehicle before coil spring replacement tasks. First remove the rear wheel along with the tire. An otc 204-167 compressor along with otc 204-167-01 adapter shoes or an equivalent spring compressor tool must be used to flatten the coil spring. Set a suitable jack stand beneath the lower Control Arm for support. Start by removing the lower Control Arm to knuckle bolt and nut and inboard fastener to the support while using proper tools to avoid injury and component damage because extreme pressure on the coil spring presents a projectile risk. Use a jack stand to lower the Control Arm that carries the coil spring until you put on the coil spring and remove it from the Control Arm. The coil spring insulators should be inspected for damage and need replacement when necessary. Using the jack stand lift the lower Control Arm until it reaches the correct position so you can install the new spring. Secure the lower Control Arm to the knuckle using bolt and nut and inboard fastener while tightening bolt and nut to a torque of 60 n.m (44 lb ft) with a supplemental space of 60 degrees. Begin by taking the otc 204-167 or equivalent spring compressor and the jack stand out of the way. Reinstall the rear tire as well as the wheel. Finally lower the vehicle.
