    The first step to replace the steering linkage inner Tie Rod requires the removal of 1 steering gear boot. When positioning the steering gear rack through wheel rotation one should only expose two rack teeth along with the flat rack surface beyond the steering gear housing. The inner Tie Rod can be released from hydraulic power steering gears through bending the tabs on the steering gear rack thrust washer. A soft jaw pipe wrench or soft jaw pliers should be used to grip the flat surface of the steering gear rack which is positioned between the steering gear housing and the inner Tie Rod housing. Fit a crows foot wrench underneath the flats of the inner Tie Rod housing . It is essential to avoid adjusting the steering gear preload before moving the inner Tie Rod since it may harm both the pinion and steering gear. The inner Tie Rod housing needs to be turned counterclockwise as the mechanic maintains the steering gear rack motionless to separate the inner Tie Rod from the steering gear rack. Steering gear rack thrust washers need to be removed when using hydraulic power steering gears. Discard the washers during the replacement. Position the new steering gear rack thrust washer if required before installing the steering linkage inner Tie Rod onto the steering gear rack. A soft jaw pipe wrench and soft jaw pliers must be used on the flat steering gear rack surface that sits between the steering gear housing and inner Tie Rod housing. A torque wrench equipped with the crows foot wrench attachment enables users to tighten the inner Tie Rod housing to 105 nm (77 lb ft). You must bend the tabs on steering gear rack thrust washers when installing the inner Tie Rod while also applying the steering gear boot.
