    Q:
How to replace the Air Bag Sensor for the side impact on Chevrolet Monte Carlo? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to replace the inflatable restraint side impact sensor requires disabling the SIR system. Secure the SIS on the inflatable restraint before applying power to the system to avoid both deployment and injury. Avoid striking or jolting the inflatable restraint side impact sensor (SIS). Begin by removing the left door trim panel then the optional water deflector and subsequent inner energy absorber pad. Start by working on the top clip that holds the outer energy absorber pad in place before gently moving it toward the outer door panel. Pull off the inflatable sensor fasteners then extract the discriminating sensor through the door impact beam mounting bracket. Use the disconnect tool to remove the wiring harness connector from the side impact sensor positioned on the inflatable restraint. Extract the sensor from inside the door. To install the side impact sensor begin by cleaning the mounting zone and positioning the sensor to its mounting bracket followed by yellow 2-way harness connection. Fasten the side impact sensor with its appropriate fasteners while maintaining a torque of 10 N.m (89 lb in) through hand-tool usage. Move the outer energy absorber pad toward the door panel exterior and clamp it using the supplied clip before placing the inner energy absorber pad. Reinstall the water deflector when necessary before you put back the left door trim panel. Finally, enable the SIR system.
