    Q:
How to replace the Air Bag Sensor for the side impact on Chevrolet Impala? Posted by Customer
    A:
To change the inflatable restraint side impact sensor, you must first deactivate the SIR system. Make sure that the inflatable restraint side impact sensor (SIS) is not hit or shook and ensure installation before supplying power in order to prevent SIR deployment or personal injury. The center pillar lower trim should be removed and the connector position assurance (CPA) should be disengaged from the side impact sensor which is connected in the yellow 2-way harness connector. Remove the wiring harness connector off the side impact sensor and unbolt the 2 fasteners holding it. Go ahead and remove a side impact sensor from the center pillar. Clean all dirt, grease, and impurities from the mounting surface before you install the new side impact sensor to the center pillar. Tighten the 2 fasteners on the SI sensor, to 10 N.m (89 lb in), reattach the yellow 2-way harness connector and align the CPA onto the connector which should only be tightened using hand tools. Lastly, reinstall the center pillar lower trim and allow the SIR system.
