    Q:
How to service and repair the oxygen sensor on Cadillac Catera? Posted by Customer
    A:
The Heated Oxygen Sensor Wrench (J 39194) must be used for the removal process when servicing and repairing an oxygen sensor. The repair process requires careful handling of oxygen sensors to prevent damage with special attention to keeping pollutants away from the electrical connector area and exhaust inlet slots and refraining from sensor drops and cleaning chemical usage. The service task becomes less tedious when the engine temperature reaches 48°C (120°F) or higher. Start service of the oxygen sensor by shutting down the ignition system followed by vehicle lift and support. The sensor harness needs to be disconnected before installing new components because any repair work is not authorized. Use a wrench to detach the affected oxygen sensors including Bank 1 sensor 2 , Bank 1 sensor 1 , Bank 2 sensor 1 , and Bank 2 sensor 2 . Installation requires a special anti-seize compound which can be obtained from GM P/N 5613695 or an equivalent product when service sensors lack pre-applied material. The technician should install new oxygen sensors before tightening them to 30 N.m (22 lb ft) for Bank 1 Sensor 2 , Bank 1 Sensor 1 , Bank 2 Sensor 1 , and Bank 2 Sensor 2 . Before connecting the sensor harness connector it is necessary to verify that both the harness and connector seal distribute the crushing pressure evenly. Finally, lower the vehicle.
