    Q:
How to Replace an Exhaust Heat Shield on Chevrolet Malibu? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before starting the Exhaust Heat Shield replacement process you must detach the exhaust manifold pipe when your car uses a 2.4l engine. The removal process for catalytic converters is part of the 3.5l and 3.6l engine replacement procedure. The first two muffler insulators must be detached from their hangers while the muffler pipe needs support. To remove the heat shield begin by taking out the left frame bolts then the left frame reinforcement before unscrewing the heat shield nuts from their mount. Place the heat shield against the underbody while aligning it with the dash panel before installing and tightening its nuts to 10 nm (89 lb in). Secure the left frame bolts along with the left frame reinforcement by turning them to 100 nm (74 lb ft) followed by an additional 90 degrees using an angle meter j-45059. Set the muffler pipe upright and connect its first two insulators onto the hangers using proper placement. The 3.5l or 3.6l engine model requires the installation of catalytic converters but the 2.4l engine model needs the exhaust manifold pipe.
