    Q:
How to replace the brake shoes on Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step when replacing brake shoes requires the removal of the Brake Drum. Start by extracting both the Brake Shoe adjuster spring as well as Brake Shoe adjuster lever. You should move the Brake Shoe tops from the wheel cylinder while spreading them open to detach the Brake Shoe adjuster assembly . Take the Brake Shoe hold down springs and cups to make them shrink while making a quarter turn to unfasten the Brake Shoe retaining cups. After rotating the forward Brake Shoe toward the rear axle flange you can take away both the Brake Shoe lower retaining spring and the forward Brake Shoe. The process starts with eliminating the Brake Shoe upper return spring then disconnecting the park brake cable fitting from the Brake Shoe park brake apply lever. Take out the rear Brake Shoe as well as the park brake lever assembly from its position followed by removing the park brake lever from the Brake Shoe. The first step for installation includes the cleaning of Brake Shoe contact points on the rear Brake Backing Plate before applying a thin layer of high temperature silicone brake lubricant to these points. Connect the Brake Shoe to the park brake lever before you join the park brake cable fitting to the Brake Shoe park brake apply lever and place the Brake Shoe correctly on the rear Brake Backing Plate. The installation sequence starts with the Brake Shoe upper return spring followed by the forward Brake Shoe while rotating it in a direction towards the rear axle flange. To install the Brake Shoe lower retaining spring together with the Brake Shoe hold down springs and cups use spring compression followed by a 1/4 turn rotation of the cups. Before setting these components make sure to separate the top portion of the brake shoes from the wheel cylinder then insert the Brake Shoe adjuster assembly followed by the Brake Shoe adjuster lever combined with its adjustable spring. Close the procedure by setting the rear brake shoes before installing the Brake Drum.
