    Q:
How to service and repair the fan shroud on Chevrolet Impala? Posted by Customer
    A:
The Fan Shroud servicing requires disconnecting the battery ground (negative) cable before other steps. The cooling system requires partial draining before the swinging movement of engine struts can start by loosening their bolts to prevent rubber bushing shearing. First detach the engine strut brace bolts from the upper tie bar before swinging the struts as well as braces toward the rear. Secondly disconnect the front fender upper diagonal brace. To acquire access to the throttle body air inlet users should disconnect it and adjust the air cleaner assembly before detaching the radiator inlet hose from the radiator. Remove the cooling Fan Shroud by first releasing the retainers and then untightening all shroud bolts. The transmission oil cooler lines need to be separated from their retainers at the cooling Fan Shroud bottom while using pliers to detach the cooling Fan Shroud clip from the upper radiator edge. First disconnect the cooling Fan Shroud electrical connector followed by repositioning the cooling Fan Shroud to access it for removing the cooling Fan Shroud. The process for installation requires plugging in the cooling Fan Shroud electrical connector followed by attaching the cooling Fan Shroud to its place. Pull the cooling Fan Shroud clip toward the top of the radiator surface until you can see full attachment. Secure the transmission oil cooler lines to their retainers situated at the bottom of the cooling Fan Shroud before screwing and tightening the cooling Fan Shroud bolts to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Reinstall the cool Fan Shroud retainers after you connect the radiator inlet hose to its position on the radiator and install the air cleaner assembly properly by threading the throttle body air inlet duct first. Screw the front fender upper diagonal brace into place before rotating its struts forward to their correct position where you will tighten the engine strut brace bolts onto the upper tie bar. Fill the cooling system while performing ground connection to the battery and verify system functionality.
