    Q:
How to service and repair the Neutral Safety Switch for the Automatic Transmission - 4 Speed-MS7 on Chevrolet Prizm? Posted by Customer
    A:
First service a park/neutral position switch for the automatic transmission - 4 speed-ms7 when you disconnect the negative (-) battery cable and securely raise the vehicle with proper tools. Begin by removing the left splash shield using 6 bolts before unfastening the 1 nut and lock washer together with the shift select cable from the manual lever. The pnp switch electrical connector needs removal followed by the manual shaft's 1 nut and lock washer and manual lever. Remove the manual shaft nut and lock plate from the pnp switch by unstaking the lock plate which sits behind the manual shaft nut. Securely fasten the pnp switch through two bolts connected to the transaxle. Secure the pnp switch to the transaxle by installing 2 bolts while maintaining loose connection strength. Install the lock plate and the manual shaft nut on the pnp switch, tightening the manual shaft nut to 6.8 nm (61 inch lbs.) reposition the lock plate over the manual shaft nut then secure it. Adjust the pnp switch by lining up the neutral basic line with the groove on the pnp switch sleeve before applying 5.4 nm of torque (48 inch lbs.) to the pnp switch bolts. Use two lock washers and nuts (3 and 4) to mount the manual lever onto the manual shaft. Tighten the manual lever nuts to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Fasten the pnp switch electrical connector and shift select cable to the manual lever by using one lock washer and a single nut for attachment. Reposition the shift select cable before reinstalling the left splash shield with 6 bolts tightened to 5 nm (44 inch lbs.). Next lower the vehicle then connect the Battery Cable while setting the brake and positioning wheel blocks underneath. Start the engine by turning the ignition switch to start while in park. Check for proper Starter motor operation then stop the engine before changing it to on. Repeat Starter motor operation check in neutral position to verify manual selector does not work in d, 2, or r.
