The first step to replace the transaxle range switch is to remove the battery tray. Check the transaxle manual shaft in the neutral (N) while engaging the park brake and the control shift lever in neutral (N). Then take off the range switch lever transaxle and unplug the electrical connectors (3, 5) from the range switch. Use a screwdriver to bend down the lockwasher tabs toward the nut, and then remove nut lock tab washer and flat washer from manual shaft in that same order. Follow up with the elimination of the transaxle range switch bolt , stud , and flat washers as well as the transaxle range switch . For installation, the transaxle range switch is attached from the manual shaft lever, the washer stud and the bolt , hand threading should be done at this stage only. Install the flat washer, lock tab washer, and m, while tightening the nut to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.). Make sure manual shaft is still in neutral (N) and bend the lock washer tabs to fasten the nut. Utilize the J 45404 Transmission Indicator Alignment Tool (J 45404) on the manual shaft, and turn the transaxle range switch until the neutral base-line on the switch lines up with the indicator line on the J 45404. Tighten the transaxle range switch bolt and stud to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) then remove the J 45404 from manual shaft. Reconnect the electrical connectors (3, 5) back to the transaxle range switch, replace the transaxle range switch lever, and ultimately replace the battery tray. Once you are done with the installation and adjustment, ensure the engine starts only in park (P) or neutral (N); if it begins else where, start by moving the switch.
