To replace the engine oil pressure sensor or switch, you must first lift up and support the vehicle. Dismount the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the engine oil pressure switch and uninstall the engine oil pressure switch. When replacing the new engine oil pressure switch, do ensure that it is properly fitted to the specification of tightening it to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) as per the Component Fastener Tightening Notice. Reconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the oil pressure switch and then lower the vehicle after installation.

How to replace the engine oil pressure switch on Chevrolet Malibu?

To replace the engine Oil Pressure Switch, detach first the Starter using appropriate procedures depending on whether you have lat, ly7, or le5 type of engine. Then unplug the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the Oil Pressure Switch and remove the switch. When installing, make sure to tighten the new engine Oil Pressure Switch to 22 nm (16 lb ft) and relocate the engine wiring harness electrical connector to the switch. Finally, reinstall the Starter as was done in removal process.

Begin the engine oil pressure switch replacement by taking off the engine sight shield only when required. Remove the oil pressure switch by disconnecting its electrical connector and using the Oil Pressure Switch Socket (J 41712). Sealant GM U.S. P/N 12346004 and GM Canada P/N 10953480 or an equivalent product should be used to apply sealant to the oil pressure switch's threaded portion. After installing the oil pressure switch with the J 41712 Oil Pressure Switch Socket you should torque it to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). Reconnect the oil pressure switch electrical connector then reinstall the engine sight shield if needed.
