Make sure to push the parking brake and move the transmission to neutral for replacing the park/neutral position switch. Jack up the vehicle, take the nut belonging to the transmission control lever off the manual shaft, then pull off the lever. Shape the connections off the switch, loosen and remove the bolts that secure it to the transmission, and then take off the switch from the manual shaft. If you have trouble removing the switch, use a file to smooth the outer edge of the manual shaft to get rid of burrs. To install, put the switch hub flats in line with the manual shaft flats and keep sliding the switch onto the shaft until it seats onto the transmission bosses. A new switch is supplied with a positive assurance bracket that does away with the need for the neutral position adjustment tool. Put two finger-tight bolts into the switch and the transmission, then set the neutral position adjustment tool (J41364-A) onto the switch so its slots match up with the tool's tabs. Rotate the tool all the way so the upper locator pin matches the switch slot, and tighten the bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Lower the tool and, where required, take out the positive assurance bracket as well. Plug the electrical wires into the switch, put the transmission control lever on the shaft and tighten it with the nut up to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Afterwards, make sure the vehicle is on the ground and check that the switch works right, letting the engine start in park or neutral only. Put in a new switch if the switch does not function as needed.
