    Q:
How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on Buick Rainier? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the park/neutral position switch, first engage the parking brake and move the transmission to neutral. Jack the vehicle up and remove the nut that holds the transmission control lever to the manual shaft, then remove the transmission control lever. Unplug the electrical connectors from the switch and take out the bolts that hold the park/neutral position switch onto the transmission and later on disconnect the switch from the manual shaft. In case you notice that the switch is not easy to slide, file the outer edge of the manual shaft and eliminate burrs. For mounting, align the switch hub flats with the manual flat of manual shaft and slide the switch onto the transmission manual shaft up to when the mounting bracket meets the mounting bosses. Mount the switch onto the transmission with two bolts finger tight. If a new switch is being installed, there will be a positive assurance bracket that will be included with it and no need of the neutral position adjustment tool. Place the park/neutral switch aligner (J41364-A) on the switch and align the two slots of the switch with the lower tabs of the tool and rotate the tool to make the upper locator pin align with the slot at the top of the switch. Tighten bolting securing the switch, to 25nm (18ft. Lbs), take j41364-a off and if a new switch was used, take the positive assurance bracket off. Connect the electrical connectors back to the switch, install the transmission control lever to the manual shaft with a nut, and secure the nut of the control lever to a torque of 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Finally, lower the vehicle and inspect the switch to ensure correct operation, which would mean that the engine should only start when the vehicle is in the p (Park) or the n (Neutral) position. In case the switch is not working properly, then replace it.

    Q:
How to Determine if Your Neutral Safety Switch Needs Replacement on Buick Rainier? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin the replacement of the park/neutral position switch by engaging the parking brake and putting the transmission in neutral. Use a hoist to lift the car before removing the transmission control lever nut that connects to the manual shaft and pulling off the lever. Follow these steps to replace the park/neutral position switch: disconnect electrical connectors from the switch then remove the bolts which secure the switch to the transmission before removing the switch from the manual shaft. Silence occurs when the switch requires assistance to detach itself from the manual shaft. At such times apply filing actions to the outer shaft perimeter to eliminate burrs. Place the switch hub flats adjacent to manual shaft flats before pushing the switch along the manual shaft until the mounting bracket reaches transmission mounting bosses. New switches will include positive assurance brackets as standard so the neutral position adjustment tool becomes redundant during installation. Install two bolts to the transmission plus the j 41364-a neutral position adjustment tool (J 41364-A) to the switch. Position the tool slots on the switch to match the lower tabs of the tool then apply gentle torque to the two bolts. Adjust the tool to match the upper locator pin with the switch slot before tightening switch bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). First detach the j 41364-a from the switch before you remove the positive assurance bracket. Fasten the control lever nut to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) after reattaching the transmission control lever onto the manual shaft. Connect the electrical connectors and reinstall the manual shaft with its nut to complete the installation. Finally, lower the vehicle and check the switch for proper operation, ensuring the engine starts only in the p (Park) or n (Neutral) positions; proceed to replace the switch if it does not function properly.

    Q:
How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on a 4L80-E/4L85-E automatic transmission on Cadillac Escalade EXT? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start the replacement procedure for the park/neutral position (PNP) switch by applying your vehicle's park brake while placing the transmission in neutral state. You must unmount the front propeller shaft if your vehicle comes with 4-wheel drive (4WD). Tilt the vehicle at a safe height. Start by removing both the pnp switch electrical connection and the end of the range selector cable from its position on the ball stud of the range selector lever. Start by extracting both the control lever to manual shaft nut and manual shaft control lever before moving onto the pnp switch bolts removal. Remove the pnp switch bolts by turning off the manual shaft and withdraw the pnp switch. A file should be used to smooth the manual shaft's outside portion when the pnp switch fails to move off easily. When installing the pnp switch position it to match the manual shaft flats before sliding it onto the manual shaft until its mounting bracket contacts transmission mounting bosses. New pnp switches accompany a positive assurance bracket which negates the need to use park neutral switch aligners. After finger-tightening the pnp switch bolts, place the j 41364-a park neutral switch aligner (J 41364-A) onto the pnp switch so its lower tabs match the slots. Use the j 41364-a to rotate the switch until its upper locator pin reaches the slot on top before tightening bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). First remove j 41364-a from pnp switch followed by elimination of positive assurance bracket if equipped. After securing the control lever on the manual shaft with a nut setting torque to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.), attach the range selector cable end to the range selector lever ball stud before reconnecting the electrical connector of the pnp switch . Drive the vehicle to verify that the engine starts correctly only when placed in p or n positions via the pnp switch; accomplish this step when using a four wheel drive vehicle. Test the switch to determine if it functions properly then replace it with a new one.

    Q:
How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on the 4L60-E/4L65-E transmission on Chevrolet Avalanche 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start by applying the park brake followed by shifting the transmission into neutral before replacing the park/neutral position switch on the 4l60-e/4l65-e transmission. Vehicles equipped with 4-wheel drive require the removal of the front propeller shaft before proceeding. Begin by safely elevating the vehicle before disconnecting the electrical connector for the park/neutral position (PNP) switch. Start by removing the manual shaft lever nut followed by the transmission control lever from the manual shaft. Next, remove the pnp switch bolts and take the pnp switch off the manual shaft; file the manual shaft's outer edge with a file to smooth any surface burrs when the manual shaft resists sliding off easily. Installation begins with aligning the pnp switch to the manual shaft flats before sliding it onto the shaft until the switch mounting bracket engages with the transmission mounting bosses. A brand-new pnp switch installs with a positive assurance bracket so the park neutral switch aligner becomes unnecessary. Centrally torque the pnp switch bolts first, then utilize the park neutral switch aligner (J 41364-A) to align switch slots with tool lower tabs. Follow by rotating the tool to allow its upper locating pin to face towards the switch top. Tighten the bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). First remove the park neutral switch aligner (J 41364-A) and eliminate the positive assurance bracket (if present) from the system. Reinstall the transmission control lever onto the manual shaft with the nut, tightening it to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.)reconnect the pnp switch electrical connector after reattaching the pnp switch. If the vehicle has 4wd, reinstall the front propeller shaft, lower the vehicle, and check the switch for proper operation, ensuring the engine starts only in the park (P) or neutral (N) positions; replace the switch when it fails to operate correctly.

How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the park/neutral back up switch, start by using the parking brake, while moving the transmission to neutral. Lift and apply support to the vehicle and remove the nut holding the transmission control lever to the manual shaft, then pull off the lever. Loosen the electrical connector from the switch and take out the bolts that hold the park/neutral back up switch down at the transmission. If the switch won't slide off the manual shaft you want to file any burrs from the outside of the manual shift shaft. Mount the new park/neutral back up switch onto the transmission manual shaft, lining up the switch hub flats with the manual shaft flats, and sliding it from until the mounting bracket contacts the transmission bosses. However, if there is a new switch that needs installation, the positive assurance bracket will align it accordingly, and a park neutral switch aligner ( J 41364-A) is not needed. Loosen the two bolts for the park/neutral back up switch, and position the park neutral switch aligner (J 41364-A) on the switch by placing the slots against the tool's tabs. .rotate until the upper locator pin of the tool lines up with the slot on the switch, then tighten the bolts to 27 n.m (20 lb ft). However, remove the park neutral switch aligner (J 41364-A), and if necessary, the positive assurance bracket. Reconnect the electrical connector back to the switch and reinstall the transmission control lever to the manual shaft secured with the nut of 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Lower the vehicle, adjust the automatic transmission range selector cable and check the switch for the right operation that ensures that the engine runs only when the vehicle's p (PARK) or n (NEUTRAL) position is reached. Change the switch if it does not work correctly.

    Q:
How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on the 4L60-E/4L65-E automatic transmission on Chevrolet Silverado 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin your 4l60-e/4l65-e automatic transmission park/neutral position switch replacement process by initializing the park brake state and moving the transmission into neutral position. 4-wheel drive (4WD) vehicles need to have their front propeller shaft removed first. First raise your vehicle before disconnecting the electrical connector for the park/neutral position (PNP) switch. Begin by removing the manual shaft lever nut before pulling out the transmission control lever from the manual shaft. Start by removing the bolts from the pnp switch and then free the pnp switch from the manual shaft. The manual shaft should undergo edge filing if the pnp switch does not slip away from the shaft without resistance. To install the pnp switch position the device flat-side up on the manual shaft until the switch mounting bracket reaches the transmission mounting bosses. The new pnp switch shipment includes a positive assurance bracket which eliminates the need for the park neutral switch aligner. Attach the j 41364-a park neutral switch aligner to the pnp switch through its lower tabs while making sure both slots on the tool match correctly with the switch slots. Secure the bolts at 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) using proper torque after you rotate the tool to match the upper locator pin with the switch top slot. The j 41364-a must be removed from the switch before you remove the positive assurance bracket when necessary. After installing the transmission control lever onto the manual shaft you must tighten the nut to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) before reconnecting the pnp switch electrical connector. A 4wd-equipped vehicle would require reinstalling the front propeller shaft followed by vehicle lowering for testing the switch in park (P) and neutral (N) positions. A faulty switch requires replacement.

How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on Chevrolet Silverado 3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Apply the park brake while shifting into neutral before beginning the replacement of the park/neutral position switch. Users must eliminate the front propeller shaft from vehicles that utilize 4-wheel drive (4WD). The vehicle requires raising and proper support. The first task is to disconnect the park/neutral position (PNP) switch electrical connector followed by removing the range selector cable end from the range selector lever ball stud. Begin by taking out the manual shaft nut from the control lever and separating the control lever from the manual shaft. Remove the pnp switch bolts and take the pnp switch off the manual shaft; use filing to smooth the edges of the manual shaft when its outer surface does not slide off without resistance. To mount the pnp switch position it against the manual shaft's flat surfaces before sliding it onto the shaft until the switch bracket makes contact with transmission mounts. Bolts on a new pnp switch include a built-in positive assurance bracket rendering the park neutral switch aligner obsolete. Install pnp switch bolts at finger tight tension before putting the j 41364-a park neutral switch aligner (J 41364-A) on the pnp switch. Position the tool's lower tabs in the switch slots. Tighten the j 41364-a bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) when the upper locator pin sits directly above the slot on top of the switch. Uninstall the j 41364-a from the pnp switch while also removing the positive assurance bracket if it exists. Use the nut to install the manual shaft to the control lever and tighten it to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Position the range selector cable end on the ball stud of the range selector lever before attaching the pnp switch electrical connection. If the vehicle has 4wd, reinstall the front propeller shaft, lower the vehicle, and check the pnp switch for proper operation, ensuring the engine starts only in the park (P) or neutral (N) positions; the switch requires replacement if it fails to function properly.

How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on the 4L60-E/4L65-E/4L70-E automatic transmission on Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Classic? Posted by Customer
    A:
Vehicle service requires first engaging the park brake followed by shifting the transmission into neutral to replace the 4l60-e/4l65-e/4l70-e automatic transmission's park/neutral position switch. Take out the front propeller shaft when the vehicle has 4-wheel drive. Support the vehicle at an appropriate height. Disconnect the park/neutral position (PNP) switch electrical connector before removing the manual shaft lever nut and transmission control lever off the manual shaft. Take the pnp switch off the manual shaft by removing its bolts before disconnecting the pnp switch from its shaft position. File the manual shaft outer surface to remove any burrs when the pnp switch does not easily slide off. Place the pnp switch onto the manual shaft by orienting it to manual shaft flats before pushing it forward until the switch mounting bracket reaches the transmission mounting bosses. A new pnp switch arrives with a positive assurance bracket which eliminates the need for the park neutral switch aligner (J 41364-A). When fastening the pnp switch bolts let them be just finger tight and afterwards connect the j 41364-a to the switch but make sure both slots on the tool match up with the switch's lower tabs. Twist the instrument until the top locator point matches the key position on the switch top. Then tighten the bolts to 25nm (18 feet pounds torque). Remove both the j 41364-a tool and positive assurance bracket from the installation site. Press the transmission control lever onto the manual shaft followed by installation of the nut to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) torque setting. Reconnect the pnp switch electrical connector. The front propeller shaft should be reinstalled only in vehicles that have a 4wd system. Finish by lowering the vehicle and verify the switch works correctly so the engine starts only when the vehicle is in park (P) or neutral (N) positions. Test the switch again after installation because you need to replace it if it does not work properly.

    Q:
How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch, manual shift shaft, detent lever, and position switch assembly in an Allison automatic transmission on Chevrolet Silverado 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before you can replace the manual shift shaft, detent lever, and position switch assembly in an Allison automatic transmission, start by taking off the control valve assembly. You need to take out the detent lever/IMS retaining bolt with a T27 TORX(R) bit, and discard it, because it has patch lock material on the threads. Be sure not to scratch the transmission case surface near the spherical pin as you remove it, and do not twist the pin to keep it from getting damaged. Set a protective cover on the spherical pin before you take it out of the transmission case. Feed the manual shift shaft through the detent lever/IMS assembly and seal, rotate the assembly, and take it out after the park pawl apply assembly comes free. Installation requires putting the new detent lever/IMS assembly into the case, mating the park pawl apply assembly, and sliding the manual shift shaft through the seal and assembly. Slide the manual shift shaft all the way in, fit in the spherical pin, and use a T27 TORX bit to tighten the detent lever/IMS retaining bolt to 10 N.m (92 lb in). Afterwards, put the control valve assembly back, then run the FastLearn process through a scan tool to update the TCM adaptive values for the new components, so old adjustment times do not continue.

How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on Chevrolet SSR? Posted by Customer
    A:
A successful replacement of the park/neutral position switch starts by setting the parking brake and placing the transmission into the neutral position. Raising the vehicle first enables access to complete this operation by disassembling the transmission control lever to manual shaft attachment with one nut then fully extracting the lever. You must disconnect proprietary electrical connections from the switch and unscrew the park/neutral position switch's mounting bolts to the transmission before extracting the switch from the manual shaft. Use a file to shape the manual shaft's outer edge when the switch will not come off easily to eliminate burrs. Your installation process begins by placing the switch hub flats against manual shaft flats followed by sliding the switch onto the shaft unit its contact with transmission mounting bosses. New switches for installation already contain positive assurance brackets which eliminate the requirement for neutral position adjustment tools. The switch requires two bolts for attachment to the transmission while being tightened just by finger strength. Position the neutral position adjustment tool (J 41364-A) on the switch while ensuring both slots overlap the tool's tabs. Then rotate the tool until the upper locator pin lines up with the switch slot. The bolt torque should be set to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) after removing the tool. Positive assurance brackets should be removed if present. Reinstall the transmission control lever with its nut and secure it to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) of torque. Then reconnect the electrical connectors to the switch. Test the switch functionality by lowering the vehicle while ensuring it activates only when the transmission is set to p (Park) or n (Neutral) positions. The switch requires replacement if it fails to work properly.

    Q:
How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on a 4L80-E/4L85-E automatic transmission on Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Classic? Posted by Customer
    A:
Replacing the park/neutral position (PNP) switch for a 4l80-e/4l85-e automatic transmission starts by using the park brake then setting the transmission to neutral. Drivers should remove the front propeller shaft when their vehicle features 4-wheel drive (4WD). The first step is to support the vehicle properly before disconnecting the electrical connector of the pnp switch. Neutralize and raise the vehicle before removing the range selector lever ball stud end of the cable followed by the manual shaft nut and the control lever from the manual shaft. Next, remove the pnp switch bolts and take off the pnp switch from the manual shaft; the manual shaft requires filing its outer edges to remove excess burrs before the pnp switch will slide off successfully. To mount the pnp switch position it over manual shaft flat areas before pushing it onto the manual shaft until the switch bracket meets transmission mounting brackets. A new pnp switch provides its own positive assurance bracket so the park neutral switch aligner becomes unneeded. Position the pnp switch bolts finger tight first before placing the park neutral switch aligner (J 41364-A) on the switch with its slots matching the tool's lower tabs. Tighten the bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) after you align the upper locator pin with the slot on the top of the switch through the aligner rotation. The user should remove both components: the aligner together with the positive assurance bracket. Reinstall the control lever to the manual shaft with the nut, tightening it to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.)the installation process requires you to attach the range selector cable end to the range selector lever ball stud and then reconnect the pnp switch electrical connector. If the vehicle has 4wd, reinstall the front propeller shaft, lower the vehicle, and check the pnp switch for proper operation, ensuring the engine starts only in the park (P) or neutral (N) positions; replace the switch if it fails to operate properly.

Begin by supporting the vehicle at height before removing the transmission control lever manual shaft retaining nut and then uninstalling the lever itself. First disconnect the switch's electrical connector then remove the bolts that join the park/neutral back up switch to the transmission. The manual shift shaft outer edge needs file treatment to remove any burrs if the switch fails to glide off this shaft. Mount the new park/neutral back up switch onto the manual transmission shaft while maintaining flat alignment between switch hub and manual shaft and ensuring switch bracket touches transmission mounting bosses. The inclusion of a positive assurance bracket with new switches eliminates the requirement for using the park neutral switch aligner (J 41364-A). Place the j 41364-a park neutral switch aligner tool over the switch before aligning its lower slots with the tool's bottom tabs. Once both slots are in position, install the switch bolts loosely. After removing the aligner tool, tighten the switch bolts to 27 n.m (20 lb ft). Use the park/neutral switch aligner tool to locate its upper pin with the switch's top slot. After this position occurs tighten the park/neutral back up switch bolts to 27 n.m (20 lb ft). Take the park neutral switch aligner (J 41364-A) off along with any relevant positive assurance brackets. Use the switch aligner tool (J 41364-A) to link the switch electrical connector before installing the manual lever on its shaft while tightening the nut to 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Verify the switch operates correctly by starting the engine only in p (PARK) or n (NEUTRAL) positions after adjusting the automatic transmission range selector cable and lowering the vehicle. The switch needs replacement if it shows any operational issues.

    Q:
How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on a 4L80-E/4L85-E automatic transmission on GMC Savana 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The replacement of a 4l80-e/4l85-e automatic transmission's park/neutral position switch begins by using the parking brake along with shifting the transmission into neutral. Lift the vehicle and loose the transmission control lever to manual shaft securing nut before removing the control lever. Begin the repair by disconnecting electrical connectors from the switch then removing the bolts which attach the park/neutral position switch to the transmission before pulling the switch off the manual shaft. The manual shaft needs file treatment to remove any burrs before attempting switch removal. When adding the switch to the manual shaft position the hub's flats next to the shaft's flats while pushing the switch along the shaft until it reaches transmission boss contact. The introduction of a brand new park/neutral position switch includes a positive assurance bracket which renders the neutral position adjustment tool unnecessary. First secure the switch to the transmission using two bolts until they meet finger tight resistance. Afterward position the tool (J 41364-A) onto the switch where its slots must line up with the tool's tabs. Turn the tool so that the upper locator pin touches the switch slot before tightening bolts to 25 nm (18 lb ft). After tool removal, discard the positive assurance bracket if you have it. After securing the electrical connections to the switch, replace the transmission control lever with its nut which requires tightening to 25 nm (18 lb ft). Verify proper switch operation while lowering the vehicle. Confirm the engine starts specifically in p (Park) or n (Neutral) positions. Replace the switch if it shows signs of incorrect operation.

How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on Chevrolet Trailblazer? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the speedometer cable and then unscrew the phosphate juice filler cap from the transmission case. Then, remove the shift linkage. To change the park/neutral position switch, lock the parking brake and place the transmission either in park or neutral. Lift the vehicle and wear off the nut that hold up the transmission control lever to the manual shaft, then pull out the transmission control lever. Remove the electrical connectors from the switch, and then unbolt the park/neutral position switch to the transmission, followed by removal of the switch from the manual shaft. Use a file to smooth out the outer edges of the manual shaft if the slider doesn't slide ut easily. For installation, the switch hub flats should be realigned with the manual shaft flats, following which the switch is slid onto shaft until the mounting bracket contacts the transmission's mounting bosses. If a fresh switch is being installed then it will also possess a positive assurance bracket and therefore there won't be any need for the neutral position adjustment tool. Mount the switch to the transmission using two of the bolts finger tight, then apply the tool j 41364-a (J 41364-A) onto the switch when the slots line up with the tabs of the tool. Rotate the tool and the upper locator pin should intercept the slot on the switch; after which, tighten the bolts to 25 n.m (18 LB FT). Remove the tool and depending on the case the positive assurance bracket might be removed also. Reconnect the electrical connectors to the switch, insert the transmission control lever onto the manual shaft with the nut, what you will tighten to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). At last, reduce the vehicle and examine the switch to correctly function guaranteeing the guide does not start if the position is different from the p (Park) or n (Neutral). If this is not functioning properly, replace the switch.

How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on GMC Envoy? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the park/neutral back up switch simply hold the parking brake and switch the transmission in neutral. Lift and lift, sticking in place, and eliminate nut tying into details for the management of datasets, as well as get the lever of them. Disconnect the electrical connector from the switch and remove bolts that hold the park/neutral back up switch to the transmission. If the switch does not slide off between the manual shaft, file away the burrs off of the outside lip of the manual shift shaft. Then, install the new park/neutral back up switch on the transmission on the manual shaft by getting the switch hub flats in line with the flats on the manual shaft to slip it until the switch mounting bracket contacts the mounting bosses on the transmission. If the switch is being installed for the first time, then it will be new with a positive assurance bracket, and the use of the j 41364-a park neutral switch aligner (J 41364-A) would not be required. Loosely fit the two park/neutral back up switch bolts and then fit the j 41364-a on the switch making sure that the two slots on the switch match with the lower two tabs on the tool. Turn the switch to where the upper locator pin of the tool matches the slot at the top of the switch and tighten the park/neutral back up switch bolts to 27nm (20 ft. Lbs.). Detachment of the j 41364-a, as well as a new switch, if installed, from a positive assurance bracket. Connect the electrical connector to the switch, reinstall the transmission control lever on to the manual shaft along with a nut that's to be tightened to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). Provide paddles to move the automatic transmission range selector, turn the vehicle, plug the switch in and modify the automatic transmission range selector cable to check for normal operation such that the vehicle starts only in p (Park) or n (Neutral) positions. If it does not work properly, replace the switch.

How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on the 4L60-E/4L65-E/4L70-E automatic transmission on GMC Savana 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Begin by applying the parking brake while shifting into neutral gear for the replacement of the park/neutral position switch on 4l60-e/4l65-e/4l70-e automatic transmissions. Start by jacking up the vehicle and taking off the retaining nut that attaches the transmission control lever to its manual shaft and then continue with lever removal. After that, remove the transmission control lever. Disconnect electrical connectors from the switch before removing its bolts that attach it to the transmission and slide the switch off the manual shaft. File down the manual shaft's outer edge to eliminate burrs since the switch seems resistant to easy removal. To install the switch hub flat sections should overlap manual shaft flat sections before gently moving the switch onto the shaft until transmission bosses make contact with the mounting bracket. A new switch contains built-in positive assurance brackets which eliminate the requirement for the neutral position adjustment tool during installation. Position the neutral position adjustment tool (J 41364-A) on the switch making sure tool slots match up with the tabs before tightening the two transmission bolts finger tight. Use the tool to turn it so that the upper locator pin matches the switch slot before tightening bolts to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Take away the adjustment tool along with any remaining positive assurance bracket. Securely fasten the switch to the transmission by installing the electrical connectors first then attaching the transmission control lever to the manual shaft using the nut to a torque setting of 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Finally, lower the vehicle and check the switch for proper operation, ensuring the engine starts only in the p (Park) or n (Neutral) positions; the switch needs replacement if it fails to function properly.

    Q:
How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on the 4L60-E/4L65-E/4L70-E automatic transmission on GMC Sierra 3500 Classic? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to change the park/neutral position switch for 4l60-e/4l65-e/4l70-e automatic transmissions requires users to engage the parking brake and set the transmission to neutral. Drivers with 4-wheel drive vehicles must remove the front propeller shaft before proceeding. Begin by raising and properly supporting the vehicle then remove the park/neutral position (PNP) switch electrical connector. Start by removing the manual shaft lever nut before taking out the transmission control lever from the manual shaft. Next, remove the pnp switch bolts and take off the pnp switch from the manual shaft; use a file to smooth the edge of the manual shaft because if the pnp switch does not easily slide off. Put the pnp switch in position on the manual shaft's flat sections and push it until the mounting bracket touches the transmission bosses. A new pnp switch includes a built-in positive assurance bracket so the park neutral switch aligner (J 41364-A) becomes redundant during installation. Attach the park neutral switch aligner (J 41364-A) to the pnp switch after installing its bolts hand-tight. The adapter should sit on the pnp switch while the two slots on the tool should match the lower tabs on it. Secure the two bolts with torque at 25 n.m (18 lb ft) while rotating the tool until its upper locator pin matches the slot on the switch top. Take out both the park neutral switch aligner j 41364-a and the positive assurance bracket if present. Crank the transmission control lever onto the manual shaft by installing its nut to a torque of 25 n.m (18 lb ft). Next, reconnect the pnp switch electrical connector. If the vehicle has 4wd, reinstall the front propeller shaft, lower the vehicle, and check the switch for proper operation, ensuring the engine starts only in the park (P) or neutral (N) positions; the switch warrants replacement in cases where it fails to function properly.

    Q:
How to service and repair the Neutral Safety Switch on an Allison Automatic Transmission on GMC Sierra 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step for transmission position switch/sensor and allison automatic transmission repair requires control valve assembly removal from the transmission housing. A t27 torx(R) bit should be used for detent lever/ims retaining bolt removal yet this bolt needs replacement because of its thread-applied patch lock material. The transmission case surface that surrounds the spherical pin requires special care to remain free of marks because an unmarred surface forms the essential seal between the control valve assembly and transmission case. You need to avoid twisting the spherical pin because doing so can result in transmission case harm. Caretakers should apply a protective plate against the spherical pin before extracting it from the transmission casing. Pass the manual shift shaft through the detent lever/ims assembly and the manual shift shaft seal before rotating the detent lever/ims assembly to disengage the park pawl apply assembly for removal of the assembly. To install put the new detent lever/ims assembly into the transmission case and align it with the park pawl apply assembly then insert the manual shift shaft through the manual shift shaft seal and the detent lever/ims assembly . Slip the manual shift shaft into its set position inside the transmission case before adding a spherical pin to maintain the manual shift shaft in position. Insert the detent lever/ims retaining bolt using a t27 torx(R) bit and secure it at 10 n.m (92 lb in). The completion of fastlearn under a scan tool helps update tcm adaptive values for new components which prevents slow adaptive mode and ensures proper adaptive value convergence.

How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on GMC Sonoma? Posted by Customer
    A:
To change park neutral position switch, start by parking the vehicle and putting it into neutral gear. Lift up the car, depose the nut connecting the transmission control lever to the manual bar, and disconnect the transmission control lever. Unplug the electrical connectors from switch and unbolt the park/neutral position switch from the transmission and take out the switch from the manual shaft. If it isn't easy to slide off the switch, file the outer world of the manual shaft so that it is free from burrs. For installation, position the switch hub flats against the manual shaft flat and slide the switch over the shaft until the mounting bracket kisses the mounting bosses of the transmission. Even if a new switch is going to be installed, it will be accompanied by a posit aster assurance bracket and thereby negates the need for the neutral position adjustment tool. Mount the switch to the transmission with two bolts finger tight and place the neutral position adjustment tool (J41364-A) at the switch and make sure the slots marry the tool's tabs. Rotate the tool to align the top locator pin with the switch slot after which it is bolted to 25 nm (18 ft lbs). Take the tool away and, if necessary, the positive assurance bracket. Re-attach the electrical connectors to the switch and install the transmission control lever to the manual shaft with the nut tightening it to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Finally, lower down the vehicle to ensure that there is proper functioning of the switch; the engine is to be started in p (Park) or n (Neutral) positions only. In case it does not work properly, you have to replace the switch.
