2005 Chevrolet SSR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on 2005 Chevrolet SSR?
A: A correct park/neutral position switch replacement procedure starts by activating the parking brake and positioning the transmission into neutral gear. The technical work requires lifting the vehicle to access the transmission control lever nut on top of the manual shaft before taking away both components. Unplug the electrical wires connecting to the switch before loosening its transmission securing bolts and extracting the park/neutral position switch from around the manual shaft. File the manual shaft's outer edge until any burrs vanish to allow smooth removal of the switch. To begin the setup position the switch hub flats opposite manual shaft flats and push the switch forward until the mounting bracket touches transmission bosses. Switch replacements automatically arrive with positive assurance brackets which serve as replacement for the traditional neutral position adjustment tool. Two bolts need to secure the switch to the transmission while maintaining a torque of 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Position the j 41364-a neutral position adjustment tool (J 41364-A) onto the switch by ensuring its slot placements match up with tool tabs. Then rotate the tool until its upper locator pin reaches the correct switch slot position. Following bolt tightening to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) remove the j 41364-a neutral position adjustment tool (J 41364-A) together with any positive assurance bracket. Reconnect all electrical connectors to the switch followed by the installation of the transmission control lever with its secure fixation via a nut torqued to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Lower the vehicle until the check reveals correct switch functioning when the engine starts only when the selector is set to p (Park) or n (Neutral). You need to replace the switch when it fails to work properly.
