2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on 2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: Begin the park/neutral position switch replacement procedure by activating the parking brake then shifting the transmission to neutral. You must lift the vehicle then remove the transmission control lever's manual shaft securing nut before you can remove the lever. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the switch and remove the bolts securing the park/neutral position switch to the transmission, followed by removing the switch from the manual shaft; the manual shaft requires filing to smooth its outer edge because the switch does not come off easily. Insert the switch onto the manual shaft so its hub flats line up with manual shaft flats before sliding it until the mounting bracket touches transmission bosses. When installing a fresh switch it will include a positive assurance bracket which makes neutral position adjustment tools unnecessary. Fasten the transmission switch with two bolts that remain loosely tightened while positioning tool (J 41364-A) over the switch to verify lower slots engage the tool's tabs. Use the tool to rotate until the upper locator pin aligns with the switch slot followed by a bolt tightening process to 25 nm (18 lb ft). Remove the tool while stripping off any positive assurance bracket. Install the transmission control lever while securing the nut with 25 nm (18 lb ft) torque setting. Then connect the electrical connectors to the switch. Lower the vehicle and check the switch for proper operation, ensuring the engine starts only in the p (Park) or n (Neutral) positions; replace the switch when it fails to function properly.
