2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: Begin your replacement of the park/neutral position switch by applying the parking brake then placing your transmission into neutral position. First lift the vehicle then extract the nut which anchors the transmission control lever to the manual shaft before removing the transmission control lever. First disconnect the electrical connectors of the switch from the transmission then unfasten the bolts binding the park/neutral position switch to the manual shaft to extract the switch from its position. You can make the manual shaft switch slide off by filing down burrs from its outer edge. Begin by positioning the switch hub flat areas with the manual shaft flat edges before pushing the switch onto the shaft until the mounting bracket touches the transmission bosses. A new park/neutral switch features built-in positive assurance brackets which eliminates the requirement for neutral position adjustment tools. After tightening two transmission bolts to their initial stage, place the j41364-a park/neutral switch aligner on the switch position its slots alongside each tab of the tool. The upper locator pin on the tool should be placed into the switch slot before you tighten down the bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). The technician should remove both the j41364-a and any currently installed positive assurance bracket. Reinstall the transmission control lever onto the manual shaft before reattaching electric connectors to the switch. Tighten the nut to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Verify switch operation by dropping the vehicle until it reaches both p (Park) and n (Neutral) positions. Replace the switch component when it displays an operational failure.
