2005 GMC Savana 3500 Neutral Safety Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on the 4L60-E/4L65-E transmission on 2005 GMC Savana 3500?
A: Start by engaging the parking brake then placing the transmission into neutral before replacing the park/neutral position switch on the 4l60-e/4l65-e transmission. First raise the vehicle before detaching the transmission control lever's manual shaft nut and subsequently removing the transmission control lever. Remove the bolts which secure the park/neutral position switch to the transmission before untangling its electrical connectors enabling the switch's removal from the manual shaft. Use file sandpaper to file down the outer manual shaft portion when the switch stays in place instead of sliding off. Accomplish installation by positioning the switch hub flats next to manual shaft flats and moving the switch down the shaft until mounting bracket reaches transmission bosses. The arrival of a new switch contains an integrated positive assurance bracket which eliminates the need for a neutral position adjustment tool. Apply two mild bolt torques to install the switch afterward slide on the j 41364-a neutral position adjustment tool (J 41364-A). Put the tool's slots into position with its tabs. Use the tool to turn it until the upper locator pin meets the switch slot before torquing the bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). You should first remove the j 41364-a tool before you proceed to remove the positive assurance bracket if it's installed. Reattach electrical connectors to the switch before installing the transmission control lever with a nut that reaches 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) torque. After lowering the vehicle check the switch operations to confirm the engine will start only when placed in p (Park) or n (Neutral) positions. Perform a switch replacement when it fails to function.
