    Q:
How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on Chevrolet Astro? Posted by Customer
    A:
When replacing the park/neutral position switch always start by applying the parking brake shift the transmission into the neutral position. Support the vehicle while raising it and remove the nut holding the transmission control lever to manual shaft and detach the lever. Start by disconnecting the switch electrical connectors then remove all bolts holding the park/neutral position switch to the transmission before taking out the switch from the manual shaft. You should file the manual shaft's outer edge to eliminate any burrs that block easy switch removal. Place the switch hub flats against the manual shaft flats then slide the switch until the mounting bracket touches the transmission's mounting bosses. Hold off from securing the bolts at this time. Because of this operation secure the switch to the transmission with two bolts while keeping them loose. Position the j 41364-a neutral position adjustment tool (J 41364-A) onto the switch where the slots must match the tool's tabs. Synchronize the upper locator point of the tool with the switch slot by tool rotation then torque bolt tightening to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Put the tool aside then attach electrical wires to the switch before securing the transmission control lever with its nut to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Check the switch operation from a lowered position to make sure the engine starts only when the selector is placed in p (Park) or n (Neutral). Perform a new switch installation when the existing switch exhibits operational failures.

    Q:
How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on a 4L60-E transmission on Chevrolet Express 2500? Posted by Customer
    A:
To change the park/neutral position switch of a 4l60-e transmission first engage the toothed part with the help of the parking brake and move the transmission to neutral. Lift the vehicle and unscrew the nut where the transmission control lever is fixed to the manual shaft and then remove the transmission control lever. The electrics are then disconnected from the switch and the bolts used to hold the switch holding the park/neutral position switch to the transmission are also unbolted drawing the switch from it out of the shaft. If the switch is unable to slide off readily, file the outer edge of the manual shaft free from any burrs. For installation install, align the switch hub flats with the manual shaft flats and push the switch onto the shaft till the mounting bracket touches the transmission bosses. In case a new switch is installed, it will be accompanied by a positive assurance bracket, which will not require the neutral position adjustment tool. Fasten the switch on the transmission with two bolts finger-tight, then place the neutral position adjustment tool (J41364-A) on the switch making sure the slots are between the tabs on the tool. Turn the device until the upper locator pin lines up with the switch slot, and tighten the bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Take out the tool and if necessary remove the positive assurance bracket. Reattach the electrical connectors back and install the transmission control lever using the nut and tighten it using 25nom at 18ft. For lbs. Lower the vehicle down and test the switch for correct functioning and ensure that the engine does not start unless it is in p (Park) or n (Neutral); make sure to replace the switch if it fails to function properly.

How to service and repair the Neutral Safety Switch on a 4L60-E Automatic Transmission on Chevrolet K3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
To fix the transmission position switch/sensor on a 4l60-e automatic transmission, push down the parking brake and put the gearbox into neutral. Disconnect the negative Battery Cable, unscrew the nut that connects the transmission control lever to the manual shaft and remove the lever. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the park position switch, take out the two bolts holding the switch in place and remove the switch from the manual shaft. If the switch didn't fall off, slide the outer edge of the manual shaft across some sandpaper to take off any sharp edges. Place the switch on the transmission manual shaft so that the switch and the manual shaft flats match, slide it until the mounting bracket contacts the mounting bosses and mount it with two bolts. Put the j41364-a onto the switch (J41365), aligning its slots with the lower tabs on the switch and rotate the tool clockwise (when facing the switch) until its upper pin gets into the slot on top of the switch. Apply 28 nm (21 ft. Lbs.) of torque to the switch bolts, take out your wrench and hook up the wires to the switch again. Place the transmission control lever onto the manual shaft and fasten it with the nut so that the tension is set to 28 nm (21 ft. Lbs.), lower the vehicle, reattach the negative Battery Cable and check that starting the engine is allowed only when the transmission is in either park or neutral position.

How to service and repair the 4L80-E Automatic Transmission's Neutral Safety Switch on GMC C3500? Posted by Customer
    A:
First, use the parking brake and position the transmission in neutral to begin working on the transmission position switch/sensor of a 4l80-e automatic transmission. Elevate the vehicle and remove the bolt that holds the transmission control lever to the manual shaft and after that take out the lever. Don't connect the wiring harness to the vehicle harness near the park neutral position switch connector to avoid breaking it. If the switch doesn't pull off, then carefully file down the rough edge of the manual shaft to help it slide off. Place the switch on the manual shaft of the transmission, line up the hubs of both parts and push the switch until it rests against the bosses in place. Fit the switch to the box by securing it with two bolts that you do not tighten yet. Place the j41364-a tool onto the neutral/park switch and make certain the tool's lower tabs lock into the two holes on the switch. Place the upper locator pin above the matching slot on the switch and then tighten the screws to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Take out the tool and slide the wiring harness connector into the other harness at the vehicle. Connect the transmission control lever to the manual shaft then tighten the nut using a torque of 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Drop down the vehicle and make sure the switch functions as needed, allowing the engine to start when set to p (Park) or n (Neutral).
