To change the park/neutral position switch, it is essential to firstly lift and appropriately support the vehicle. Remove the intermediate
Exhaust Pipe and allow lh
Muffler assembly to hang down. Put the transmission into neutral, remove the nuts holding the transmission shift control cable bracket to the transmission without pulling the shift control cable that will pull the cables out of their rubber and metal bushings as the rod end guide tubes do not bend. Carefully take the shift control cable end clip from the transmission shift lever stud, reposition the transmission
Shift Cable and bracket, and disconnect the park/neutral position switch electrical connectors. With a wrench, hold the transmission manual shaft wrench flats to stop the shaft from spinning, and take off the range selector (shift) lever retaining nut and also range selector (shift) lever. Make sure the transmission is in neutral, then unbolt the park/neutral position switch mounting bolts and slide the switch off the manual shaft. To install, align the switch with the manual shaft using the park/neutral position switch aligner (J41364-A), with the switch and tool slots corresponding, slots in the tool comprising the two lower slots on the switch with the tabs on the tool, and the upper pin with the slot at the top of the switch. Ensure that the transmission is still in neutral position and do not take out the j41364-a before such time as instructed. Mount the park/neutral-position switch onto the transmission manual shaft, with the flats of the switch hub matching those with the manual shaft, then slide the switch against the contact with the mounting bracket with the transmission case. Install the park/neutral position switch mounting bolts and tighten the same to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.) and then remove the j41364-a. Install the transmission range selector (shift) lever onto the manual shaft with an upright installation, using a wrench on the shaft flats to install the retaining nut and tighten to 20 nm (15ft. Lbs.). Join the park/neutral position switch electric connectors, install the transmission shift control cable and bracket, align the shift control cable end with the transmission shift lever stud, and prohibitively anchor the shift control cable end to the clip. Lastly, install the nuts that fix the transmission shift control cable bracket at the transmission whereafter tightening to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) reinstall the intermediate exhaust and shift the transmission into park and lower the vehicle.
