How to replace the left exhaust muffler on Chevrolet Corvette?

To replace the left Muffler from the exhaust side, it is necessary to lift the vehicle up and support it in an appropriate way. For automatically transmitted vehicles, lower the rear suspension crossmember to create room for the Muffler removal. Next is the removal of intermediate pipe and the disconnected of vacuum line from the Muffler assembly where equipped prior to removing the left Muffler from the hangers and take the left Muffler off. For installation, clean the contact area of the intermediate pipe of the Muffler using a wire brush and install left Muffler onto the hangers and reconnect vacuum line to the mufflers assemblies, if equipped. Again, reinstall the intermediate pipe, and if the rear suspension crossmember had been dropped, put it back. Finally, lower the vehicle.

How to service the muffler on Chevrolet Corvette?

Start the Muffler service by raising and supporting the vehicle. Detach the bolts from the rear stabilizer shaft and remove its nuts and clamps before setting the stabilizer shaft into its downward direction. The Muffler must be detached from the Muffler hanger by removing intermediate Exhaust Pipe-to-rear Exhaust Pipe bolts. Before removing the Muffler from the vehicle you must first detach the right-hand Muffler hanger along with its attached fuel tank shield bolt and nut and shield. Start by attaching the Muffler to your vehicle before you progress. Install the fuel tank shield along with its bolt and nut on the right-hand side followed by tightening the fuel tank shield nut to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). Before tightening the bolt reach 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) with a torque wrench. Nuts on the Muffler hanger require tightening to 16 nm (12 ft. Lbs. Yield torque). Install the Muffler onto the Muffler hanger and join the rear Exhaust Pipe to the intermediate Exhaust Pipe while torquing the intermediate Exhaust Pipe-to-rear Exhaust Pipe bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Lower the vehicle to install clamps and bolts and nuts on the rear stabilizer shaft crossmember.
