Fuel Tank

Access to the replacement of the secondary fuel tank module starts by removing the fuel tank. Use gloves to handle the secondary fuel tank module electrical connector while disconnecting it followed by proper placement of the connector to protect the lock ring from damage. A combination of the J 45722 and a long breaker-bar enables counterclockwise rotation of the fuel tank module lock ring for removal. The following step is detachment of the cam lock ring. To start the replacement, disconnect the fuel transfer hose quick connect fitting from the partially removed secondary fuel tank module before taking out the module completely from the fuel tank along with discarding the fuel tank module seal. You should check the lock ring for damage; replacement of the lock ring becomes necessary if it experiences warp exceeding 0.41 mm (0.016 in). Grasp the fuel transfer hose within the tank while partially installing the secondary fuel tank module before connecting it. Succeed in attaching the fuel transfer hose quick connect fitting to the module by pressing the module downward while it aligns with the encapsulated ring and then confirm the lock ring's correct orientation allows only clockwise rotation. Install the cam lock ring using the J 45722 and extend the breaker-bar to turn the ring clockwise until it reaches complete sealing position. Reinstall the fuel tank after you reengage the connector interlock on the secondary fuel tank module and connect its electrical connector.

The first step to replace the primary fuel tank module requires you to remove the fuel tank for access before starting. The first step involves unfastening the fuel feed hose quick connect fitting from the module before you can pull out the fuel feed hose from its retainer for placement beyond reach. You should first unplug the electrical connector from the module while releasing the interlock before taking the wire harness out of its retainer. Then place everything aside. The J 45722 and a long breaker-bar should turn counterclockwise to unlock the fuel tank module lock ring allowing you to remove the cam lock ring. The technician needs to partially remove the primary fuel tank module to access the fuel transfer hose quick connect fitting before disconnecting it. Pull out the primary fuel tank module from the fuel tank before discarding its fuel tank module seal. The lock ring must be checked for any damage which exceeds 0.41 mm (0.016 in); if found, get a new ring. To install the new fuel tank module seal, you should grasp the fuel transfer hose from inside the tank and partially install the primary fuel tank module. Immerse the fuel transfer hose quick connect fitting into the port on the module before using the downward pressure to position this component next to the encapsulated ring. Use the J 45722 breaker-bar alongside a long breaker-bar to correctly install the lock ring by directing clockwise movement until it reaches full seat. After reconnecting the electrical connector install the wire harness onto the retainer and connect fuel feed hose quick connect fitting to the module. Then reinstall fuel feed hose onto the retainer before installing the fuel tank.
