2000 Buick Park Avenue Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor on 2000 Buick Park Avenue?
A: To replace the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor, one has to disable the negative Battery Cable. Take off the serpentine belts from the Crankshaft Pulley and lift the vehicle off the ground using a hoist. Remove the right front wheel and tire assembly, then subsequently, remove the right inner fender access cover. Very carefully, using the Flywheel holding tool (J 37096) hold the Flywheel, then with the help of a 28 mm socket carefully remove the crankshaft Harmonic Balancer retaining bolt. Use the balancer remover (J 38197) to strip off the crankshaft Harmonic Balancer. Carefully take out the Crankshaft Position Sensor shield without using a pry bar to first pull back its electrical connector, then backing out the two sensor attaching bolts from its mounting collar onto the block face. For installation, locate the ckp sensor to the block and bolted the bolts to compress to 20-40 n.m (14-28 lb ft). Put in the Crankshaft Position Sensor shield and reconnect the ckp sensor electrical connector. Mount the crankshaft Harmonic Balancer on the crankshaft, use the Flywheel holding tool (J 37096) to hold the Flywheel, and fasten the Harmonic Balancer bolt to 150 n.m +76 degrees (110 lb ft +76 degrees) using the torque/angle meter (J 36660-A). Replace the right inner fender access cover and the right front wheel and tire assembly and tighten the nut on the wheel to 140 n.m ( 104lb ft). Get the vehicle down, provide the serpentine belts, connect the negative Battery Cable, and execute the crankshaft variation learn procedure.
