• Q: How to replace the secondary camshaft timing chain on 2000 Cadillac DeVille?

  A: To change the Timing Chain take the engine front cover off. The next step is to remove the Oil Pump in order to get access to the timing marks and align them. Remove the retaining bolts that hold the right Timing Chain Tensioner and extract the tensioner, letting it expand while you do so. Perform the same process from the left Timing Chain Tensioner. Later, pull out Camshaft covers and the Camshaft position sensor. Use an open wrench on the hex cast close to the front of each of the camshafts to prevent it from rotating when loosening the Camshaft sprocket retaining bolts from all four camshafts. Pull the right Timing Chain from the sprocket teeth and slide the Camshaft sprockets off and the right chain fall into the front cover area and after that remove it from the engine block. Repeat it on the left Timing Chain. For installation, it is recommended to set the Camshaft timing before installing the Oil Pump, then the engine front cover, Camshaft Position Sensor, and Camshaft covers.
