• Q: How to replace the RH secondary camshaft timing chain on 2001 Cadillac DeVille?

  A: To replace right secondary camshaft drive then force chain away, first, remove the right secondary camshaft drive chain tensioner, the Camshaft Position Sensor, and the right camshaft cover. Make sure the camshaft sprocket drive pins are at the top of their rotation before placing the camshaft holding tool (J44212) over the camshafts. There are no bolls on the engine front cover available to remove the mechanics wire supporting the right secondary camshaft drive chain shoe; then the engine front cover bolt. Turn off the hex cast in the camshaft with an open end wrench to make sure that it does not rotate as the right exhaust camshaft sprocket bolt is pulled off. Slide the right exhaust camshaft sprocket off the camshaft, remove the right secondary camshaft drive chain from the camshaft sprocket teeth to be removed and lifted from camshaft intermediate drive shaft sprockets teeth and removed from engine. For installation slide the right secondary camshaft drive chain down through the right cylinder head onto the right intake camshaft sprocket and route around the outer row of the camshaft intermediate drive shaft sprocket teeth. Mount the correct exhaust camshaft sprocket to the right secondary chain, camshaft, making sure that the sprocket notch marked re engages with the exhaust camshaft pin. Once more, use the open end wrench to lock this up in order to tighten the camshaft sprocket bolt to 120 nm (89 Ft. Lbs.). Lastly, install the correct secondary camshaft drive chain tensioner, the camshaft holding tool (J 44212) removed, and the right camshaft cover and Camshaft Position Sensor reinstalled.
