2000 Cadillac Eldorado Transmission Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the Transmission Pan on the HYDRAMATIC 4T80-E on 2000 Cadillac Eldorado?
A: Service of the fluid pan begins with supporting the vehicle at an elevated position. A drain pan should go underneath the bottom pan of the transmission for fluid collection. The bottom pan drain operation on hydramatic 4t80-e transaxles does not empty all the fluid since retaining fluid stays inside the side cover and Torque Converter; however, draining side cover fluid requires bottom pan pan removal followed by case Drain Plug removal but additional Torque Converter drainage is not necessary for routine service. Relax the bottom pan bolts first and drain fluid from the pan before taking out all bolts and the bottom pan together with the seal. The bottom pan requires a seal replacement after service since any damage to its sealing surface will prevent reuse of the bottom pan seal. First clean both the bottom pan and the case sealing areas before thoroughly drying them to guarantee good sealing performance. Clean all case bolts and tapped holes as well to maintain proper torque. You should install the bottom pan while using new bolts along with the seal before applying light pressure to the bolts. Rules for tightening bottom pan bolts include starting with 3 nm and ending with 12 nm with torque specifications expressed in nm and inch lbs. Finally add dexron-iii transmission fluid to lower the vehicle as required. Change the transmission fluid while resetting the oil life indicator when performing a fluid replacement.
