2000 Cadillac Seville Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the secondary camshaft timing chain on 2000 Cadillac Seville?
A: To change the Timing Chain, you should first take out the engine front cover. Then remove the Oil Pump to get access to the timing marks and align them. Take out the retaining bolts of the right Timing Chain Tensioner and then remove the tensioner which will expand while it is being removed. Repeat the process with the right Timing Chain Tensioner. Next, take away the Camshaft covers and Camshaft Position Sensor. Apply an open wrench to the hex cast located in front of each Camshaft in order not to allow engine rotation when loosening the Camshaft sprocket retaining bolts from all four camshafts. Lift the right Timing Chain from the teeth of sprocket and remove the Camshaft sprockets and let the right chain roll to the front cover area and then remove it from the engine block. Repeating for the left Timing Chain. For this installation, carry out the procedure on setting Camshaft, then install the Oil Pump followed by the engine front cover, Camshaft position sensor and the Camshaft cover.
