2000 Chevrolet Camaro Camshaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the camshaft on 2000 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: Recover the refrigerant first to replace the Camshaft. Then, take out the Radiator with the A/C Condenser, then the valve lifters, then Timing Chain and sprockets. Remove the Balance Shaft Gear from the Camshaft, then extract the camshafts thrust plate bolts and plate then the key for the Camshaft. Be careful when you remove or install because Camshaft bearings could be damaged, Camshaft journals are all the same diameter. To remove the Camshaft, install three 5/16-18 x 4 inch bolts in the Camshaft bolt holes, then delicately turn and pull the Camshaft out. Inspect the Camshaft and bearings. Before installation, apply prelude p/n 12345501 or equivalent onto the Camshaft, installing the Camshaft then followed by the Camshaft key and the Camshaft thrust plate. Replace the Camshaft thrust plate with bolts, torquing these bolts to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.). Next, install the balance shaft drive gear to the Camshaft and the timing marks on the Balance Shaft Gear and the balance shaft drive gear. Assembled the Timing Chain and sprockets, then valve lifters and then Radiator and A/C Condenser. Finally, charge the a/c system.
