2000 Chevrolet Camaro Shock Absorber Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the shock absorber on 2000 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: The Shock Absorber service and repair requires j39549 (Ball Joint/Tie Rod Separator) along with j34013-b (Strut Spring Compressor) and j34013-114 (Modular Shock Compressor Adapter), j34013-88 (Strut Compressor Adapter), j39642 (Modular Shock Nut Removal Set, 15 mm (0.60 inch)) and j34013-115 (Modular Alignment Rod). Start with removing Brake Master Cylinder nuts before sliding the Brake Master Cylinder carefully to the side for accessing the driver side Shock Absorber. After mounting bolt removal from the Shock Absorber upper you must lift and support the vehicle while removing the tire and wheel. The first step involves removing the stabilizer shaft link before proceeding to remove the Shock Absorber lower bolts and nuts. Remove the lower Control Arm cotter pin before discarding it and take out the lower Control Arm nut . The j39549 tool allows you to detach the lower Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle before removing the lower Control Arm and lower Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle. Make a marker on the Shock Absorber lower mount before taking out the Shock Absorber along with the spring. Position both components using j34013-114 and j34013-b at the designated positions and fasten them with wing nuts. After precision alignment of j34013-114 with j34013-88 you can mount the driver side Shock Absorber onto j34013-114. Wiggle j34013-b to reduce the front spring height 13 mm (0.50 inch) before removing the Shock Absorber nut with j39642-1 by locking the Shock Absorber rod with j39642-2. During assembly reinstall j34013-114 and j34013-b with correct positioning of the Shock Absorber. Tighten the new Shock Absorber nut as you maintain position of the Shock Absorber. The installation process starts with Shock Absorber and spring alignment onto the lower Control Arm before installing Shock Absorber lower bolts and nuts which must achieve 65 nm (48 ft. Lbs.) torque setting. Put the lower Ball Joint and Control Arm onto the Steering Knuckle then fasten the lower Control Arm nut to 110 nm (81 ft. Lbs.). Put in a fresh lower Control Arm cotter pin with the stabilizer shaft link followed by the tire and wheel after you lower the vehicle. Finish up by installing the Shock Absorber upper bolts and nuts while tightening the nuts to 41 nm (30 ft. Lbs.) and the bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Reset the Brake Master Cylinder in position before installing and securing its nuts to 29 nm (21 ft. Lbs.).
