2001 Chevrolet Camaro Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a Shock Absorber on 2001 Chevrolet Camaro?
A: The first step in Shock Absorber replacement starts by lowering the rear seatback followed by trimming the quarter panel. First raise the vehicle and support it adequately after the carpeting has been folded backward. Support the rear axle through an adjustable stand before removing the Shock Absorber nut because this step prevents damage to brake hose lines and the propeller shaft and Tie Rod. Starting with the Shock Absorber insulator it becomes necessary to remove the insulator retainer and Shock Absorber insulator followed by the Shock Absorber lower retainer and insulator. You should first remove the Shock Absorber nut that exists at the rear axle then extract the Shock Absorber itself. The installation requires attachment of the Shock Absorber stud to the rear axle while tightening the Shock Absorber nut to 90 nm (66 ft. Lbs.). Position the Shock Absorber through the underbody pan after you have installed its lower insulator and retainer onto the Shock Absorber . Secure the Shock Absorber insulator as well as retainer to the Shock Absorber by keeping the Shock Absorber stationary while tightening the nut to protect against damage. Finish the installation by tightening the Shock Absorber nut to 17 nm (13 ft. Lbs.) before taking out the rear axle support. Set the vehicle at the lower position then place the folded carpet where it belongs. Put the quarter trim panel in place followed by raising the rear seatback to its upright position.
