2000 Chevrolet Cavalier Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Light Switch (Cruise Control) on 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: Permission to fix brake switch (Cruise Control) starts with left sound insulator removal and wiring harness connector(s) disconnection. The switch can be detached from the retainer after pulling it backward toward the rear side of the bracket. The installation process begins by placing the retainer into the bracket from its front side. After applying force to the Brake Pedal for installation you must push the switch into the retainer until it takes a seat while hearing the distinct "clicks" that indicate the ribbed switch element has engaged the retainer. Affix the wiring harness connector(s) before pulling the brake or clutch pedal fully back to the pedal stop for adjustment. This allows the switch to freely move within the retainer. Use this process once more to verify the switch position is correctly adjusted. Finally, reinstall the sound insulator.
