2000 Chevrolet Corvette Clutch Disc Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the clutch disc on 2000 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: In order to service and repair the Clutch Disc, first remove the negative Battery Cable and raise the vehicle for support. The parts to be removed include the exhaust system and the driveline support assembly with the transaxle. Then remove the engine Flywheel inspection cover after removing its bolts retainers, loosen the visible bolts of the clutch Pressure Plate and spin the engine Flywheel, repeat steps until all visible bolts are loose. Take out the pins that hold the clutch Pressure Plate in place, rotate the engine Flywheel once again, and repeat the process until all pins are gone, the clutch Pressure Plate as well as the clutch driven plate. For installation, check clutch Pressure Plate and clutch driven plate for wear or damage and engine Flywheel. Make necessary adjustments with the clutch Pressure Plate and thereafter fit the clutch driven plate and clutch Pressure Plate on to the engine Flywheel, but tighten visible bolts finger-tight. Rotate the Flywheel of the engine and do it again until all the bolts on the Flywheel that were replaced are finger-tight. Take the pilot bushing installer/clutch alignment arbor (J 38836) to align the driven plate of the clutch to the Pilot Bearing. Tighten the clutch Pressure Plate bolts in the specified sequence as evenly in three increments with the fourth increment to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Replace the engine Flywheel check cover with its bolts and tighten using 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Replace the driveline support assembly and transaxle, after which replace the exhaust system. Lastly, hook up the negative Battery Cable, and tighten the bolt to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.), program the transmitters, and put the vehicle down.
