How to replace the rear axle shaft or gasket on a 10.5 Inch Axle on 2000 Chevrolet Express 3500?

The first step to replace either the rear Axle Shaft or gasket of a 10.5 inch axle requires the removal of flange bolts. Use a soft-faced hammer for gentle tapping of the Axle Shaft followed by locking plier application to the Axle Shaft's rib to start the removal process. Pull the Axle Shaft from the tube before you take out the gasket. Carefully wash both the Axle Shaft flange and exterior hub assembly surface. Mount the gasket onto the Axle Shaft followed by inserting Axle Shaft and gasket into the axle tube while the shaft splines must engage the differential side gear and the holes in axle flange and gasket need to align with hub holes. After installation of the axle flange bolts apply 156 nm (115 ft. Lbs.) of torque.
