2000 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the negative battery cable on 2000 Chevrolet Impala?
A: It begins by removing the battery negative cable from its connection to the battery. First disconnect the negative cable bolt then the battery ground negative cable from the frame rail at the underhood accessory wiring junction block. Raise the vehicle then support it properly. Detach the transaxle stud nut before removing the battery ground negative cable from the transaxle stud. Remove both battery retainer clamps (2,3,4) from the frame before removing the ground cable from its wiring harness conduit. The installation requires placement of the battery ground negative cable into the wiring harness conduit followed by battery cable retainer (2,3,4) attachment to the frame with Fastener Notice adherence in Service Precautions. Install both the transaxle stud nut and battery ground negative cable to the transaxle stud then torque the transaxle stud nut to 25 N.m (18 lb ft). Lower the vehicle to place both the battery ground negative cable and negative cable bolt on the frame rail near the underhood accessory wiring junction block then tighten the bolt to 8 N.m (71 lb in). Fasten the battery negative cable to the battery and secure the terminal bolt with a torque of 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
