2000 Chevrolet Malibu Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the oil pan on 2000 Chevrolet Malibu?
A: The first step when servicing and repairing the Oil Pan is to collect the necessary tools. Harmonic balancer installer (WE 3.89344), crankshaft balancer remover (J 4.1316), and engine support fixture (J 28467-360). Start by breaking the negative Battery Cable, and recover the air conditioning (A/C) refrigerant. Pull out the Drive Belt and the upper as well as lower radiator hoses. Loosen, but not remove, the upper A/C Compressor bolts, then use the engine support fixture and raise the vehicle. Drain the crankcase, dismantle the right front tire and wheel assembly, and remove the right splash shield. Remove the following components from the right front antilock brake system (ABS) wheel speed harness, followed by the right front Ball Joint, cotter pin and nut in order to separate the Ball Joint from the Control Arm. Pull the right otlr cotter and nut and remove the lower A/C Compressor bolts and compressor, as well as lift it out of place. Take off the Evaporator to accumulator a/c line, the transmission flywheel inspection cover, and the right front and rear engine cradle bolts. Next, take off the balancer, crankshaft, Starter, side bolts of the Oil Pan, and Oil Pan bolts followed by Oil Pan Gasket. Clean the Oil Pan flanges, Oil Pan rail, front cover, rear main bearings cap, and threaded holes. For an installation, insert a new gasket and apply sealant to Oil Pan Gasket tabs if installing the rear main bearing cap, using gm p/n 1052080 or equivalent. Ah, tighten the Oil Pan retaining bolt to the value 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) and side bolts to the value 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the transmission cover changer, the Starter, flywheel inspection cover and the crankshaft balancer. Dish out the A/C Compressor spacer and upper bolts loosely, and fasten them before fitting the A/C Compressor and lines. Replace frame bolts on right side, right side Ball Joint, and Tie Rod End to the spindle and attach right front abs wheel speed sensor harness, splash shield, and right front tire and wheel assembly. Bring down the vehicle, take off the engine support fixture, and fix the top and bottom radiator hoses and then the Drive Belt. Refill the crankcase, reconnect the negative Battery Cable, and top off the a/c system.
