    Q:
How to replace the oil pan on Buick Century? Posted by Customer
    A:
You need to start by disconnecting the battery ground cable for the replacement procedure. First suspend the engine and A/C Compressor by removing engine mount struts from both units before removing the A/C Compressor mounting bolts. Set both components apart. Use the universal engine support fixture (J28467-B) together with the engine support adapters (J28467-90A) and engine support adapter leg set (J36462-A) to safely raise the vehicle into position. First remove the three-way catalytic converter pipe from the right (rear) exhaust manifold before draining engine oil. Disconnect the wiring harness for the oil sensor while removing the Starter motor as well as the transaxle brace which bolts onto the Oil Pan and lower nuts from the transaxle mount and engine mount. First lift the engine with the engine support fixture to reach the Oil Pan before taking off the engine mount bracket containing its engine mount from the Oil Pan. First use the torque wrench adapter (J39505) to remove the right (rear) Oil Pan side bolts which should be followed by left (front) Oil Pan side bolts and Oil Pan retaining bolts before removing the Oil Pan and gasket. After cleaning both the Oil Pan and engine block gasket area apply a small amount of sealer gm p/n 1234579 or equivalent product on each side of the rear main bearing cap. Use the torque wrench adapter (J39505) for tightening right (rear) Oil Pan side bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) and left (front) Oil Pan side bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) while the Oil Pan retaining bolts get tightened to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). First attach the engine mount bracket and engine mount assembly to the Oil Pan before using an engine support fixture to lower the engine toward the Oil Pan. Secure the engine mount lower nuts with the transaxle mount lower nuts and transaxle brace. Reinstall the Starter motor followed by reattaching the oil level sensor wiring harness before you connect the three-way catalytic converter pipe to the rear Exhaust Manifold. Lower the vehicle after removing the universal engine support fixture (J28467-B), engine support adapters (J28467-90A), and engine support adapter leg set (J36462-A). Reinstall the A/C Compressor and engine mount struts and fill the engine with oil before connecting the battery ground (negative).

    Q:
How to service and repair the oil pan on Chevrolet Lumina? Posted by Customer
    A:
Service and repair of the Oil Pan begins with disconnecting the battery's ground (negative) cable. Remove engine mount struts from both the engine and the Drive Belt. The first step includes unbolting the A/C Compressor before moving it to position. Start by installing the universal engine support fixture (J28467-B) together with engine support adapters (J28467-9OA) and engine support adapter leg set (J36462-A) before lifting and supporting the vehicle's weight. First drain the engine oil through the right (rear) exhaust manifold and disconnect the exhaust manifold pipe. Place the vehicle in the raised position then disconnect the Starter motor and oil level sensor wiring harness and wake the transaxle mount lower nuts and engine mount lower nuts along with the transaxle brace from the Oil Pan. First use the engine support fixture to lift the engine up and gain access to the Oil Pan. Afterward remove the engine mount bracket containing both the mount and the bracket from the Oil Pan. Use the torque wrench adapter (J39505) to remove the right (rear) Oil Pan side bolts first then proceed with the left (front) side bolts and Oil Pan retaining bolts until the Oil Pan can be removed. Before installing the rear main bearing cap apply gm p/n 1234579 or equivalent sealer to both sides of its surface after cleaning the engine block gasket and Oil Pan properly. Position the Oil Pan Gasket and Oil Pan first. Then tighten the Oil Pan retaining bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) but use the torque wrench adapter (J39505) to torque the left (front) Oil Pan side bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) and the right (rear) Oil Pan side bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Place the engine mount bracket with engine mount on the Oil Pan then use an engine support fixture to lower the engine before tightening engine mount lower nuts together with transaxle mount lower nuts while adding the transaxle brace to the Oil Pan. After reattaching the Starter motor and re-joining the oil level sensor wiring harness follow up with exhaust manifold pipe attachment to the right (rear) exhaust manifold. The next steps require the A/C Compressor installation together with Drive Belt and engine mount struts followed by engine oil fill-up and battery ground cable connection. The technician must first remove the universal engine support fixture (J28467-B), engine support adapters (J28467-9OA), and engine support adapter leg set (J36462-A).

Clean and check the Oil Pan and engine block gasket mating surfaces, and also apply sealant gm p/n 12345739 (Canadian P/N 10953541) at the rear main bearing cap and engine block. Set the Oil Pan Gasket and the Oil Pan by tightening the bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs. ). Install the right side Oil Pan bolts and torque to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) and the left side Oil Pan bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) using the torque wrench adapter (J39505). Lift the frame assembly back to its previous condition with jackstands, install the right side and tighten the left side frame bolts and take off the jackstands. Install the right side stabilizer link; the right side outer tie rod to the Steering Knuckle, the right side lower Ball Joint to Steering Knuckle. Mount the Engine Mount bracket onto the Engine Mount and onto the Oil Pan along with the intermediate pinch bolt to the Steering Shaft. Lift the vehicle and place the engine support fixture (J35368-B) to bring down the engine to its normal position. Perform the following: lift the vehicle again, with the mount lower nuts to the transaxle brace and to the Oil Pan.
